Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#123470) at the rank of assistant professor in English pedagogy. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will provide curricular support for the English Department’s undergraduate BA and BS in English Licensure (Grades 7 – 12) degrees and the English components of MTSU’s dual enrollment initiative. In addition, they will teach graduate courses in composition pedagogy and literature pedagogy, advanced undergraduate courses in methods of teaching secondary English, and a range of general education English courses.

Required Education

A PhD in English; English education; rhetoric and composition; rhetoric; writing studies and composition; technical or professional communication; technical or professional writing; the teaching of English; or literacy studies, is required by the appointment date.

Other Desirables

Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:

  • recent experience (within the past five (5) years) teaching English in a secondary-school environment (grades 7-12).
  • experience teaching dual enrollment English classes.
  • experience with the National Writing Project.
