Job Summary: The Research Engineer uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to perform varied scientific research requiring application and adaptation of established techniques, procedures, and criteria. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques, procedures, and criteria to accomplish a variety of research assignments. Performs various research projects to include conducting experiments, writing research proposals, writing technical papers and research reports.

Additional Department Summary: The Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking a Research Engineer. This position is available to individuals with research interests and expertise in modeling and data analyses of hydrologic processes.

This position conducts research in hydrology under the supervision of Dr. Mukesh Kumar. Evaluates and develops next-generation (eco)hydrologic models. Generates new scientific insights into hydrologic responses and their drivers during climate extremes. Contributes to research proposal writing, mentoring, and collaborating with other PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of research experience; OR master's degree and some research experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Modeling and data analytics experiences are required for developing simulation codes and for conducting data analysis. Superlative ability to articulate research objectives and hypotheses, and ability to work as part of a team. Excellent analytical ability and in-depth experience with at least one programming language.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related field. Proven track record of research, including at least five first-author papers in reputable international journals. Experience with numerical modeling and/or data analytics with big data. Expert knowledge of hydrology.
