Description

Hospice of the Piedmont is currently seeking a full-time Chaplain to join our dynamic team. As a Hospice Chaplain, you will provide compassionate spiritual support to patients and families in alignment with their beliefs and preferences, while serving as a vital resource to the interdisciplinary team and staff.

This role calls for a deep understanding of spiritual issues related to illness, death, and bereavement, along with strong counseling and communication skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sensitivity and flexibility in supporting individuals during end-of-life experiences and possess strong interpersonal abilities to foster effective working relationships. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, are also essential.

Responsibilities/General Duties (Including but not limited to):

  • Provides spiritual support and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers in alignment with their beliefs and preferences. 
  • Assesses and addresses spiritual needs throughout the care process, maintaining contact and involving clergy as desired. 
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to care planning and documentation per regulatory standards. 
  • Facilitates transitions into bereavement programs and offers spiritual comfort through visits, prayer, sacraments, and rituals. 
  • Leads religious services, ceremonies, and memorials; supports staff and volunteers with training and emotional care. 
  • Participates in agency/community programs. 
  • Adheres to confidentiality and organizational policies, fulfills evening/weekend coverage, and completes assigned tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary or school of theology.
  • Ordination or appropriate certification in hospital/pastoral ministerial counseling, preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in pastoral care or counseling, preferred.
  • Hospice experience, preferred.
  • Driver’s license, personal automobile and current automobile liability insurance

Typical Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach, lift and walk, climb steps in patient homes, office settings and facilities
  • Communicate by phone, writing, and speaking
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds 
  • Drive short/long distances, general fast-paced work environment
  • Must be able to work in home environments that have difficult working conditions including, but not limited to cramped space, pets, dirt, allergens, smoke, no chairs
  • Must be able to complete EMR at bedside in varied environments
