About The Role:
We are seeking an experienced professional editor as a Senior Manager, Editorial – Publishing Development. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of professional editors (Deputy Editor and Editor-in-Chief level) in commissioning articles, developing journals and growing output, while also contributing directly as an Editor to one or more journals in the Advanced portfolio, including Advanced Science.
You will identify new opportunities, commission articles, nurture relationships, and oversee projects through to completion. With responsibilities for both journal performance and the leadership of editors, you will play an overarching role in shaping Wiley’s in-house material science and chemistry journal portfolio with a focus on the Advanced brand expansion for long-term success in the China market (China accelerator program).
How you will make an impact:
- Provide leadership and direction for a team of editors, supporting recruitment, performance, and professional growth.
- Help shape and execute the strategy for development of the in-house chemistry and materials science journal portfolio in China in close collaboration with the Physical Sciences Directors.
- Lead on commissioning strategy and journal growth objectives for your assigned portfolio.
- Build and maintain a network of authors, editors and reviewers, while representing Wiley at conferences and institutional outreach events.
- Oversee projects through the publishing process, ensuring high quality and timely delivery in collaboration with Marketing, Sales, Design, and Production.
- Drive author and partner engagement, ensuring strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to develop the journal portfolio.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- A PhD in materials science, applied chemistry or related fields (e.g. engineering technologies, energy, catalysis, biomaterials, polymer science expertise preferred).
- Journal publishing experience with a strong track record of developing journals and growing output.
- Significant professional editor experience, with a solid background in article commissioning and a deep understanding of the peer-review process from submission to final decision.
- A strong interest in science communication and understanding of Open Access workflows and Open Research.
- Excellent influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities.
- Experience leading and developing teams, creating a positive and motivating environment.
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities, with the creativity to propose and deliver solutions.
