About The Role:

We're looking for a PHP developer with experience using Magento in an e-commerce environment, to join our in-house tech team, focusing on existing brands but also looking at building highly-automated new e-commerce brands.  

Compared to an agency role, this gives you a chance to be close to the actual use of the technology. No more clients that don't know what they want (or worse, want the wrong things). Come and build and deploy and see the impact! You’ll be working closely with senior leadership from the CEO down, our tech and data teams, and our other functions.

We have a hybrid working arrangement, with offices in Woodstock in Cape Town, but support flexibility.

Responsibilities:

• Build and extend Magento 2 ecommerce websites. Mostly backend, but we encourage at least some full-stack work to ease interfaces between front- and back-end
• Build custom data structures and modules within Magento, to deliver unique customer experiences
• Innovate on highly-automated ecommerce: work with the tech, data and CRM teams to deliver personalised experiences at scale and automatically
• Participate in infrastructure decisions and execution
• Use AI effectively to accelerate the mundane parts of execution, for example, building thorough test suites to allow rapid deployment with confidence
• Participate and contribute in tech meetings as well as sprint planning sessions.

Our Tech Stack:

• E-commerce backend: Magento 2 + GraphQL for some services
• Frontend: React.js, but likely to start using Hyvä shortly
• Collaboration: JIRA, Slack, Notion
• Development: Cursor, Gitlab, k8s CI/CD
• Data and analytics: BigQuery, PowerBI
• Automation, AI: n8n, OpenAI and others, and to be honest, Google Sheets

Requirements:

• Be really smart, creative and inspiring!
• At least a year of Magento experience
• Strong relevant academic background and/or proven software development experience in a formal setting
• Proven experimentation with AI tools
• Beneficial: experience with any other elements of our tech stack, React.js, Hyvä
