Job Description
We are seeking a Maintenance Scheduling Supervisor to lead the scheduling function for highly complex maintenance and project work across LLNL facilities. You will supervise a technical team, own the integrated look-ahead schedule, and ensure your team provides high quality customer service while navigating requirements for high-hazard environments. This position is in the Work Planning and Control (WP&C) Functional area within the Environment Safety & Health (ES&H) Directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
You Will
- Provide direct administrative supervision to a technical team, including interviewing, selection, training, performance management, and rating; ensure ES&H/WP&C compliance for personnel, equipment, and facilities.
- Own the Laboratory’s T-week (look-ahead) maintenance schedule—level resources across crafts, resolve conflicts with stakeholders, and align with safety, reliability, customer, and financial goals.
- Lead portfolio-level backlog management, balancing preventive, corrective, and elective work to drive continuous improvements in material condition.
- Standardize scheduling practices (e.g., logic/constraints) and performance metrics (delay codes, resource histograms, KPIs); prepare and deliver status reporting to management.
- Chair cross-functional planning/scheduling meetings; negotiate priorities and mediate timeline discrepancies among ES&H, facility operations, program customers, and contractors.
- Provide oversight of the Maintenance Work Schedulers, including documented observations, coaching, and mentoring.
- Drive continuous improvement—lead feedback sessions, post-job briefs, and management reviews to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, project management, or equivalent combination of education and related technical experience.
- Extensive experience as a scheduler/workweek manager/work planner/project manager overseeing highly complex maintenance programs and leading teams that support intricate maintenance programs.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (and related tools such as MS Project/Excel/PowerPoint), including schedule setup, baselining, monitoring, and reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of WP&C and ES&H practices and the ability to flow facility safety-basis requirements (DSA, FSP, Siting Plan) into work control documents.
- Independent judgment to define approaches, establish/modify procedures, set priorities, and create original solutions in high-consequence settings.
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills (procedures, work instructions, LOTO/interlock procedures) and experience drafting work packages/JHAs.
- Proven track record leading change and driving process standardization and improvement across planning/scheduling functions.
- Experience collaborating in higher-hazard environments (e.g., nuclear/radiological/explosives) with rigorous safety and compliance requirements.
Qualifications We Desire
- Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance technologies, and asset management best practices.
- Strong facilitation skills for leading cross-disciplinary meetings and resolving competing priorities among diverse stakeholder groups.
- Experience with change management methodologies and leading teams through process, technology, or organizational transitions.
