THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY BETWEEN $38,594 - $43,611.

THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CANDIDATES WHO ARE PERMANENT (NOT PROVISIONAL) IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF CUSTODIAN.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

The Office of Real Estate, Design, and Construction, Facilities Management (RED+CFM) provides a functional and safe work environment for all ACS staff. RED+CFM is responsible for the design and construction management projects of all ACS locations, which include over 43 administrative offices throughout the five boroughs, 5 juvenile facilities (including Crossroads and Horizon Secure Detention Facilities), and the Nicholas Scoppetta Children’s Center (NSCC). RED+CFM also ensures adequate and safe working environments for staff and clients at ACS administrative offices, the juvenile facilities and the NSCC, and utilizes the Trades Shop to complete work requests by all ACS divisions.

The Division of Administration, Office of Real Estate, Design + Construction & Facilities Management is seeking a Custodian to oversee and manage the day-to-day maintenance and operational activities within administrative office locations.

Under supervision, performs work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility, which may include:
-Supervision, in the cleaning, operation and maintenance of one or more small buildings and their immediate grounds and in the enforcement of safety requirements in such assigned areas, or, in a medium sized building, supervises cleaners on an assigned shift.

-May supervise a small number of cleaners, performing such tasks as sweeping, dusting, mopping, polishing, waxing, gathering, and disposing of refuse; cleaning and removing
snow from walkways; maintaining lawns and shrubs; operating a low-pressure heating system and cleaning the boiler parts; performs these tasks in buildings where no subordinate staff is assigned.

-Inspects the building and grounds to note general condition and necessity for repairs.
checks work performance, assures the proper use, cleanliness, and storage of tools.

-Arrange for and may assist in the moving of furniture and equipment.

-Serve as Fire Safety Director.

-Enforce safety requirements and protects the building and grounds from vandalism.

-Requisition fuels and stores; issues supplies and equipment, estimates janitorial material
requirements.

-Keep inventories, time sheets and other records; prepares reports on work activities,
accidents and unusual conditions.

-Make minor repairs; reports conditions requiring the services of mechanics.

-Clean, adjust, lubricate, and make minor repairs to oil burners, pumps, fans, booklifts,
ash lifts, and other mechanical equipment.

-Perform the duties of subordinates, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level III and IV candidates must have four years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
