Job Description

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The DOC seeks to recruit a Program Support Coordinator to support the Division of Programs and Community Partnerships. Under the guidance of the Director of Tablet Operations, the selected candidate will focus primarily on the distribution, collection, and optimal utilization of tablets for incarcerated persons in all NYCDOC facilities. Select facilities will have needs for evening/ weekend schedules. This specific position may include working at the Department’s Outpost Facilities such as Bellevue Hospital, among other sites. The Coordinator assigned to the Outpost Facilities should expect that they may split their time between the multiple sites as they become operational. The Program Support Coordinators’ responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

- Distribute, retrieve, and inspect tablets, ensuring functionality and policy adherence.
- Support individuals in custody with login access, navigation, and content engagement.
- Maintain inventory, track engagement, and compile reports.
- Conduct facility tours and collaborate with staff, external partners, and incarcerated individuals to create/ review content that aligns with in person services.
- Prepare materials, lead meetings, and provide status updates.
- Develop strategies to enhance Tablet utilization which support people in custody towards reaching their individualized goals.
- Assist with overall tablet operations and maintain open communication with supervisor.
- Collaborate with uniform staff, non-uniform staff, external contracted partners, and people in custody.
- Serve as a liaison to facility-based program staff on all tablet-related operations.

Preferred Skills
- Microsoft office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, outlook) proficiency.
- Expertise in data entry and Analysis
- Experience in a high-paced environment, with the ability to manage information and distribute appropriately
- Ability to establish positive-working relationships with multiple units and different level of staff
- Proficiency in managing, utilizing and troubleshooting digital technology.
- Highly organized detail-oriented, proactive, resourceful and flexible.

Qualifications

  • 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
