Doctors of BC is a trusted, member-led organization representing more than 16,000 physicians, residents, and medical students across British Columbia. With a proud history of physician advocacy and collaborative leadership, the organization works to create a professional and policy environment where doctors can thrive, delivering the highest standard of care while experiencing meaningful professional satisfaction.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Economics, Advocacy and Negotiations, the Chief Negotiator provides strategic leadership in negotiations, contract management, and labour relations on behalf of physicians across BC. As the lead spokesperson at the bargaining table, most notably for the Physician Master Agreement valued at over seven billion dollars annually, the Chief Negotiator plans, manages, and conducts negotiations in alignment with the Board’s agenda and priorities. The role also involves deep engagement with members and physician committees, careful preparation of positions on complex issues, and close collaboration with government counterparts.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with extensive experience in complex, multi-party negotiations within unionized or public sector environments. With fluency in labour relations and contract law, they are adept at turning complexity into practical strategies and durable agreements. They are respected for their steady judgment, integrity, and ability to build trust across differences, whether uniting a diverse membership or forging productive relationships with government.
This is a significant opportunity to shape the future of physician practice and health care in British Columbia. The position must be based out of BC.
Doctors of BC acknowledges that our organization is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, whose strong relationship with their territories continues today.
