We are seeking a Membership Data Analyst to join our team and help us transform complex data into actionable intelligence that supports strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing membership data, identifying trends, and producing insights that inform retention, engagement, and recruitment strategies. This role is best suited for a professional with strong analytical, technical, and communication skills who can turn raw data into meaningful reporting for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This exempt position will report to the Associate Vice President in the Division of Member Services. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $91,300 - $100,000 (commensurate with related experience).
Responsibilities:
- Research & Analytics: design and execute approaches to collect, clean, and organize membership data using both primary and secondary sources; analyze data sets to identify trends, patterns, and insights into membership demographics, engagement, and retention; conduct research on key membership and practice trends in the surgery field and share updates with internal stakeholders; and oversee both quantitative and qualitative data tasks such as survey development, coding interviews, and creating dashboards or reports to communicate findings.
- Data Visualization & Insights: build and maintain dashboards in Power BI (or other visualization tools) to track membership growth, engagement, retention, and other key performance indicators; present findings in a clear, accessible way to inform strategic decision-making; and collaborate with colleagues to ensure progress toward organizational membership goals is measurable and transparent.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination: partner with divisions and leadership teams to define KPIs and data exploration priorities; serve as a point of contact for project-related inquiries, ensuring effective collaboration across teams; translate analytical insights into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders; and partner with IT and other experts to maintain enterprise architectures, data models, governance, and best practices.
- Management & Organization: manage project timelines and deliverables while maintaining data integrity; design and maintain scalable analytics systems and reporting processes; develop documentation such as source-to-target mappings and data model specifications; create best-practice reports that synthesize data into meaningful insights; and evaluate internal systems for efficiency, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- Collaboration with the membership marketing team to provide support and insights that facilitate a dynamic view of membership and potential members. This joint vision and action plan will facilitate achieving group, division, and enterprise KPIs surrounding membership growth.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, social science research, business, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- 3+ years experience specifically in membership, customer, or donor analytics.
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI (data modeling and custom visualizations).
- Familiarity with optimizing the visualization of information and awareness of user experience best practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent research skills and the ability to find, review, synthesize, evaluate, and translate qualitative and quantitative research findings into relevant insights.
- Candidates should have experience with cohort analysis, segmentation, and predictive modeling.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Power BI & Google Analytics.
- Experience with membership lifecycle analysis, churn prediction, and retention modeling, along with healthcare or professional association experience.
- Experience presenting complex data insights to Leadership and Employees; demonstrated ability to translate business questions into analytical frameworks; experience working in matrixed organizations with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with statistical analysis (including regression, correlation, and hypothesis testing); A/B testing and experimental design is a plus.
- SQL query writing and database management experience.
- Some exposure to Python or R for statistical analysis and data manipulation.
- The ideal candidate should have experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes, as well as advanced Excel skills (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and statistical functions).
- Experience with AMS/CRM platforms.
