Orbital team members are guided by the fundamental beliefs of building trusted relationships, personal accountability, innovation, and excellence in everything we do. Orbital is looking for others to join our team to continue activating our purpose and embrace our values.
Orbital Engineering is seeking a Technical Project Manager (TPM) to provide both project leadership and project administration across the Technology & Innovation Division. The TPM serves as the central hub for coordinating projects, managing schedules, and facilitating cross-departmental collaboration, while also ensuring that project data, reporting, and documentation are accurate and reliable in JIRA and Deltek Vantagepoint. This is a fulltime, fully remote opportunity within the United States.
This dual responsibility requires a professional who can both lead projects to successful delivery—ensuring outcomes are on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational priorities—and maintain the systems and records that provide leadership with visibility into progress, risks, and resource needs. Projects are primarily internal, involving cross-departmental collaboration, but may include client collaboration or deliverables.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Position duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Project Leadership & Coordination
- Act as the primary point of coordination for all Technology & Innovation division projects.
- Manage project schedules, scope, deliverables, and dependencies across multiple teams.
- Facilitate cross-departmental communication, ensuring alignment between technical teams, internal stakeholders, and leadership.
- Proactively identify risks, issues, and resource conflicts, escalating as needed.
- Drive projects forward to successful completion while maintaining accountability through accurate tracking and reporting.
Project Administration & Data Stewardship
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records in JIRA (task and sprint tracking) and Deltek Vantagepoint (financials, reporting, and controls).
- Prepare and distribute project dashboards, reports, and portfolio-level summaries for leadership review.
- Ensure consistency in documentation, including charters, meeting minutes, task logs, and lessons learned.
- Support resource management and forecasting by maintaining clean project data.
Technical Oversight & Alignment
- Apply technical understanding to facilitate discussions with software development, AI, GIS, IT administration, data analytics, and field technology teams.
- Ensure projects follow established technical standards, security requirements, compliance obligations, and organizational goals.
- Translate business needs into technical requirements, supporting clear communication between stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Support adoption of consistent project management practices across TIN teams.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate with project sponsors, department leads, and technical staff to clarify requirements and deliverables.
- Lead project meetings, status updates, and decision-making sessions.
- Provide structured communication tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Engage with clients when project scope includes client-facing deliverables or collaboration.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
- 2–5 years of project management experience in a technology or engineering environment.
- PMP, CAPM, or Agile certification (Scrum Master, SAFe) desirable.
Technical & Administrative Skills
- Proficiency with JIRA (or similar work management tools).
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint (or comparable ERP/CRM platforms).
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid).
- Understanding of software development lifecycles, IT workflows, or engineering project practices.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint).
Core Competencies
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to balance administrative accuracy with leadership-level coordination.
- Effective communicator, able to bridge technical and non-technical groups.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and initiative to drive progress.
Performance Accountability
- On-time, on-scope delivery of Technology & Innovation projects.
- Leadership satisfaction with reporting, transparency, and project coordination.
- Accuracy and completeness of project data in JIRA and Vantagepoint.
- Effective balance of project leadership and administrative responsibilities
