Role Overview
PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Farm Laboratory Supervisor. This role will manage day-to-day operations of the lab located on the farm at our Genesis site in Scottsville, Kentucky.
This role ensures that production activities such as assembly, processing, and packaging, run smoothly and meet both quality and efficiency standards. Working closely with farm and production teams, the Supervisor will play a vital role in supporting animal science and agricultural operations, while also fostering a safe, collaborative, and productive work environment.This role requires comfort working in a farm-based environment with exposure to agricultural operations. Strong leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and adaptability are essential to thrive in a fast-paced, farm-based lab environment.
The salary range for this position is $53,000 - $65,000 USD. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
You Will
- Set priorities for the team to ensure task completion and coordinate work activities with guidance from the Production Manager
- Make decisions that are guided by policies, procedures and business plans
- Require an understanding and application of procedures and concepts within own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines
- Train novice employees on the most current Standard Operating Procedures
- Conduct all people management responsibilities for direct reports, including but not limited to labour management, performance management, recruitment and training and development
- Verify accurate and timely production information and records are maintained
- Assist with herd-health testing protocols, submission forms and timely dispatch of test samples
- Supervise and be responsible for daily laboratory activities, including but not limited to:
- Semen processing
- Laboratory hygiene
- Coordination and management of the collections schedule, ensuring customer orders are distributed within targeted timelines
- Calibration and operation of all analytical instruments and processes
- Ordering supplies and inventory control
- Reporting of team activities, standard operating compliance and production volumes
- Implement change plans in accordance with operational needs
- Implement and hold others accountable for following the Company’s animal care policies and procedures, safety program, bio-security protocols as well as compliance with all environmental laws and procedures
- Work hours needed operationally, which can vary frequently and include weekends, evening, holidays and emergency situations
- Complete the required tasks of all other duties as assigned necessary, for the care of the swine and/or swine facility
Requirements
Basic Qualifications: (required)
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience within contemporary swine production systems/laboratories, partnered with proven results & proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications
- Able to manage a team of 5+ employees
- Travel a maximum of 5-10%, based on production needs
