Job Description
General Summary
Supervises the logistical processes of patient care supplies, linen distribution, minor patient care equipment, and mailroom and duplication services. Responsible for the maintenance of physical storage sites and the integrity of automated databases utilized for maximum supply tracking and control. Oversees the work of the materials coordinators, materials clerks, and equipment technicians.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Supervises staff assigned to carry out department functions, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and distribution of supplies maintained as stock inventory for hospital and Operating Room; linen distribution and collection, cleaning and restocking of all medical supply carts; cleaning and rotation of minor patient care equipment; and mailroom and duplication services. Ensures the integrity of the automated management system employed to support these activities.
- Trains and recommends corrective action for staff as necessary to maximize productivity and effectiveness while maintaining cohesiveness and moral.
- Develops hierarchical structure as necessary to assure timely completion of tasks and accuracy of duties.
- Ensures the performance capabilities and cross training of staff as necessary to integrate both the physical and automated daily requirements. Provides input to manager regarding staff performance.
- Develops in staff an active service-focused orientation responsive to the needs of internal customers, and ensures staff understands that accuracy and timeliness of their work are critically important for proper inventory management and the work of Procurement Services, Information Systems and Patient Accounting.
Supervisor, Materials Management
Controls inventory levels in the central storeroom and floor stock locations. Maintains high fill-rate or product availability for all routine and non-routine requisitions of stock supplies.. Tracks consumption variations and adjusts turn ratios by supporting the following relational activities:
- Forecasts demand utilization patterns.
- Remote asset location product availability vs. stocking patterns/timing.
- Practice pattern or changes to hospital service lines.
Coordinates all activities with Supply Chain Management in order to accomplish the following:
- Takes advantage of pricing/contractual benefits.
- Establishes and maintains good-working relationships with vendors in order to facilitate relationships and reduce system costs.
- Assists in the monitoring of vendor representatives.
Qualifications
Education And Experience
High School Diploma or an equivalent (GED) is required. Associate’s degree or equivalent in a business related discipline is preferred.
Three years’ experience in a warehouse/storeroom environment, with exposure to inventory management system. In addition, one year of lead or supervisory experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams as a group leader as well as a participant.
- Ability to supervise, monitor daily work activities, evaluate, train and motivate the performance of staff.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
