Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Job Summary

The Fire Prevention Officer (FPO) is responsible to ensure fire prevention systems are compliant and operational by verifying inspections and certifications, and reviewing the performance of equipment like alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, suppression systems, and emergency lighting. The FPO also collaborates with site management and health and safety personnel to maintain fire safety compliance according to local, state, and federal regulations. Responsible for developing, reviewing, and updating company policies, procedures and permits related to fire safety including evacuation planning, fire drills and tabletop exercise.

Essential Functions

  • Inspect fire alarm and suppression systems
  • Inspect Emergency and exit lighting
  • Prepare systems testing reports to verify proper operation and detect malfunctions.
  • Ensure annual, monthly certification of fire extinguishing and suppression systems.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local fire codes, and manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Maintain detailed monthly records of all inspections, tests, and maintenance.
  • Reports submitted to safety officers, facility management, or local authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Inspection schedule tracking and issuing reminders for re-inspections or maintenance.
  • Verify that fire protection systems are installed, configured, certified and maintained according to applicable codes:
  • Liaise with facility management, safety officers, business partners, and fire departments.
  • Oversee and verify corrective work performed by vendors or in-house technicians.
  • Re-inspect systems after corrective work or system modifications.
  • Facilitate fire drills and provide technical support on system performance.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications And Skill Requirements

Education: A degree or diploma in fire science, fire protection engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fire prevention, fire safety, risk identification and reduction methodology or a related field is required.

  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of fire safety regulations, codes, and standards is required.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are required.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or equivalent are preferred.
  • Physical Fitness: The ability to perform physical tasks and inspections is important.
