Job Position Summary

Candidate will act as the KNES Engineering department subject matter expert for all welding at KNES manufacturing sites, remote sites, and vendor surveillances. In addition, they will proactively identify potential issues with designs and welded product to confirm that primary welds and secondary welds are adequately documented. Support internal departments with resolutions for technical nonconformances and inspection criteria.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain weld procedures per the requirements of AWS D1.1, AWS D14.1, and ISO 3834-2.
  • Review KNES and supplier WPQRs, PQRs and WPS to applicable codes or standards, such as AWS D1.1, D14.1, ISO 3834-2, and CSA W59.
  • Maintain and review records for vendor and internal WPQRs to enforce conformance to AWS and ISO welding standards.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and inspection of weld maps and KNES drawing requirements.
  • Review engineering drawings of welded structures for weldability and to ensure drawings meet approved weld processes. Make recommendations to improve weldability and reduce production costs.
  • Review and interpret data from NDT reports to assist in the disposition of pass/fail for welded assemblies.
  • Perform and evaluate VT on in-process and completed welded assemblies.
  • Communicate discrepancies to the responsible internal or external parties and support resolution.
  • Assist in facilitating weld repairs/rework upon issuance of product disposition.
  • Assist others in preparing and entering Non-conformance Reports.
  • Performs additional welding and engineering tasks as may be assigned by the KNES Chief Engineer.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Qualification as an AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI)
  • Technical aptitude/acumen with machinery, engineering, literacy and interpretation of blueprints.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Proficiency in interpreting welding standards and design specification requirements.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
  • AWS CWI certification, or capability to obtain immediately. Other AWS certifications are a plus (CWS, CWE, CWEng)
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance and Control processes in a regulated environment.
  • Familiarity, not exclusive to performing or inspecting, with welds and/or nondestructive testing.
  • 3+ years of experience qualifying and maintaining PQR, WPS and WPQR documents.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, and gain access to secure nuclear and government facilities.
