Job Description:

The Eastern Europe Tax Manager will report to the Vice President International Tax and be responsible for all tax matters for the Eastern Europe region, specifically covering Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine and the Czech Republic comprising 9 legal entities. The Polish operations of 3M are the most material within the Eastern Europe region and will be the core focus of the role. Responsibilities will include:

  • Be accountable for all direct and indirect tax matters in relation to 3M’s business operations in the countries in scope.
  • Be the principal point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for the countries in scope, building strong cross-functional relationships globally and operate as a business partner and not only as an in-house tax advisor.
  • Direct tax compliance is generally outsourced and the role will work closely with advisors to ensure the accurate and timely completion of tax disclosures in accounts, corporate tax returns, and all other tax compliance filings.
  • Partner with the Global Indirect tax leader and our internal shared service centres to drive and support indirect tax strategies and process improvements where applicable.
  • Support the global transfer pricing leader and external advisors to ensure the group’s global transfer pricing policies are implemented, monitored, and communicated with local stakeholders and local TP documentation reviewed.
  • Lead all tax authority communications including tax controversy and audits and partner with the global functional tax experts to support the appropriate strategies.
  • Lead the identification of and claims for any incentives and monitor ongoing incentive regimes, working with external advisors to support claims where required.
  • Support the Provision team in all aspects of US GAAP reporting relating to the entities in scope, including cash tax forecasting and payments, quarterly provision, return to provision and uncertain tax positions.
  • Lead/support tax matters relating to business transformation and supply chain projects including legal entity simplifications and M&A activities.
  • Partner closely with global planning and transfer pricing leads and other regional and country tax leaders to ensure a global approach to projects.
  • Keep up-to-date with legislation developments and communicate impacts to the team, and support other projects relevant to the region and more broadly.
  • Be the subject matter expert and outside of US lead for the BEPS Pillar 2 requirements. The project is lead overall by the global planning team and this role will work closely with them and the other regional and country tax leads to coordinate and support the implementation and ongoing requirements.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferably with a major in accounting, finance, or tax from an accredited institution and relevant qualifications in accounting and tax.
  • Minimum 15 years of international corporate tax experience preferably with Big 4 experience.
  • Expert international corporate income tax knowledge in the countries in scope, including understanding of international technical topics such as transfer pricing, tax treaty application, and interactions between local statutory filings and tax returns.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English and in Polish, leadership abilities, and ability to collaborate across the global function and organization.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience in US headed multinational group with broad manufacturing footprint.
  • Proven ability to use analytics and influencing skills to drive results.
  • Exhibit sense of urgency to drive effective change and actively look for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • SAP, OneSource Tax Provision and Alteryx experience.
