Role Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Lead Machinist to join our team and take a hands-on leadership role in our machining operations. This position is ideal for someone with a strong machining background, experience across a variety of CNC machines, and a passion for leading others in a fast-paced, high-quality manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in operating mills, vertical and horizontal lathes, and grinders, along with the ability to machine parts from raw materials, rework existing components, and maintain extremely tight tolerances (often as low as 0.0005”). You’ll also be responsible for overseeing daily shop activities, mentoring machinists, and driving performance, quality, and safety standards across the team.

Shift Differential: 10%

Responsibilities Include:
- Operate a variety CNC machines including mills, lathes (vertical and horizontal), and grinders
- Machine new and used parts to exact specifications
- Perform inspections, interpret part drawings, and follow route sheets
- Select proper tooling, inserts, speeds, and feeds based on materials and job requirements
- Mentor and coach machinists to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to best practices
- Lead day-to-day machine shop operations, including scheduling and monitoring production
- Maintain detailed shift turnover notes and contribute to performance reporting
- Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.) to hold tight tolerances
- Uphold and promote a strong safety culture, utilizing Stop Work Authority when needed
- Suggest improvements to machining processes and workflows
- Support overtime, weekend, or holiday work as needed for customer or business demands
Requirements:
- HS/GED
- 5+ years of CNC Setup experience
- Proven experience operating a wide range of manual and CNC machining equipment
- Strong understanding of machining principles and materials
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and route sheets
- Precision Measuring tool experience
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Experience holding tight tolerances (down to 0.0005”)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role in a machine shop environment preferred
- Computer skills, including MS Office applications.
The pay range for this position is $21.66 - $32.55 per hour, depending upon experience.
