Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham Elevation Centre three times per week.

The Role
We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated AI Engineer Co-op to join our team and help design, build, and deploy AI-driven applications that transform the way we operate. The successful candidate will work on end-to-end AI solutions — from prototyping to production — while gaining hands-on experience across front-end, back-end, and cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI applications, including:
• Front end: Streamlit and React user interfaces.
• Back end: Azure-based APIs, Databricks pipelines, and scalable microservices.
• Leverage a broad range of AI platforms and tools (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex AI, Copilot Studio, Power Automate, LangChain, Hugging Face, and other open-source frameworks) to build, deploy, and optimize models.
• Build and maintain data pipelines and integrations for model training and inference.
• Work closely with data scientists, product owners, and engineers to translate business requirements into technical deliverables.
• Support DevOps/MLOps processes such as CI/CD workflows, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and model deployment.
• Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and knowledge sharing across the AI team.
• Front end: Streamlit and React user interfaces.
• Back end: Azure-based APIs, Databricks pipelines, and scalable microservices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI/ML, or related field.
• Eligible to work full-time (40 hours per week) in Canada, and for 12-months term starting Jan 2026
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
• Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React, Streamlit) and RESTful API development.
• Understanding of cloud services (Azure preferred; GCP/AWS a plus).
• Exposure to AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar).
• Knowledge of data engineering concepts: ETL pipelines, SQL/NoSQL databases, data modeling.
• Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn new tools quickly.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with large language models, prompt engineering, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
• Knowledge of MLOps tools (MLflow, DVC, GitHub Actions, Terraform).
• Familiarity with modern AI application architectures (vector databases, embeddings, API orchestration).
