About The Team/Division

Portfolio Solutions forms an exciting part of the London Market Division. The portfolio seeks  to delegate authority in lines of business that are often not traditional in nature or placement with a creative mind set required to get a deal done. The key to our success is taking calculated risk and building strong relationships across the market to optimise our exposure and result. Expectations are high, but with the opportunity to be a key member of a significant line of business within London Market this is an exciting role. The successful candidate will complete a team of underwriters working alongside our Pricing, Claims and Ops teams and focussed on maximising the return from our delegated  portfolio. This is your opportunity to become an integral part of the team to  help drive and shape the account going forward. What you’ll be doing in the role

The key to success in this role will be a detailed underwriting approach, strong analytical mindset and unparalleled relationship building skills. You will need to thrive as much on relationship management as underwriting and analytics and be able to demonstrate a skill for working with senior brokers/coverholders as well as an ability to effectively analyse a portfolio.

We don’t limit ourselves to a class of business and so you will need to be adaptable, agile and knowledgeable when it comes to underwriting. Your underwriting knowledge will allow you to identify the right opportunities and take these from concept to reality. You will also need to be highly capable with data and analytics, able to get to what’s important and find a new way of approaching a problem.

Responsibilities:

• Analysis and underwriting of binding authority contracts and coverholders in both lead and follow positions, across multiple classes / lines of business on a worldwide basis.
• Lead and develop close relationships with our partner brokers generating profitable opportunities and deals that bring value to the Portfolio Solutions book
• Driving the development of our underwriting appetite to help refine the portfolio strategy including analysing new and emerging areas of the market
• Working closely with the pricing actuaries on our coverholders to continuously monitor and control performance as well as refine our underwriting strategy
• Meetings take place outside of the Lloyd’s building

The Candidate

• Experience in underwriting, analysis, sales and business development and/or experience in analysing portfolios in a pricing or actuarial capacity
• Technical underwriting ability to analyse a binder and craft it for success
• Multi-class experience would be looked upon favourably
• Excellent relationship management skills and an insatiable drive to make the portfolio highly profitable
• Decisive in nature, displaying good judgement in decisions and taking accountability
• A great communicator who can work with people at all levels, and are just as comfortable with clients and leaders in the industry as they are with their own team.
• Be a driven individual who demonstrates interest and enthusiasm to learn within the role.
• Demonstrate a willingness to travel internationally as required and attend evening business social events as appropriate
• Degree educated or equivalent
• Progress in ACII (or equivalent) examinations or commitment to complete them
