Job Summary

The Strategic Buyer in a manufacturing environment is responsible for sourcing and procuring materials, components, and services that support production operations. This role focuses on developing supplier strategies, optimizing cost and quality, and ensuring supply continuity to meet manufacturing schedules and long-term business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for direct and indirect materials used in manufacturing.
  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on cost, quality, delivery, and compliance with manufacturing standards.
  • Lead negotiations for contracts, pricing, and service-level agreements with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to align procurement strategies with operational needs.
  • Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Analyze market trends, cost drivers, and supply risks to inform sourcing decisions.
  • Manage RFQs, RFPs, and supplier selection processes for new product introductions and ongoing production.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives by sourcing for JIT, Kanban, and other inventory optimization strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and internal procurement policies.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and provide reporting on cost savings, supplier performance, and sourcing metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • Certifications (preferred): CPSM, CPIM, CIPS, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in strategic sourcing or procurement within a manufacturing environment.
  • Skills:
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chain dynamics.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Attributes:

Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

Experience with global sourcing and supplier development.

Familiarity with cost breakdown analysis and total cost of ownership (TCO).

Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing setting.

Salary range $85k to $90k
