About The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Science Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep expertise in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) domain. The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of business acumen, advanced analytics, and domain knowledge to help solve complex business challenges, drive data-led decision making, and enable digital transformation for our CPG clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with business stakeholders and client leadership teams to understand strategic priorities, business challenges, and opportunities in the CPG sector.
- Design, develop, and deploy advanced data science solutions (e.g., demand forecasting, price and promotion optimization, supply chain analytics, trade spend effectiveness, consumer segmentation).
- Act as a domain and analytics thought leader, bringing innovative ideas and best practices in CPG data science.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineering, product management, and business consulting to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Translate analytical findings into actionable business insights and present them effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor junior data scientists and provide guidance on methodologies, tools, and domain-specific approaches.
- Contribute to solution accelerators, reusable frameworks, and knowledge management initiatives.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advanced analytical techniques relevant to CPG.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Operations Research, or related field.
- 12–15+ years of experience in Data Science, with at least 7+ years in the CPG domain (retail, FMCG, consumer goods).
- Proven expertise in applying advanced analytics / ML models to solve CPG-specific problems such as demand forecasting, assortment optimization, marketing mix modeling, consumer behavior analytics, and supply chain optimization.
- Strong proficiency in Python / R / SQL and experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
- Experience with big data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, Hadoop) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders and present complex analyses clearly.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with syndicated data sources (Nielsen, IRI, Kantar, SPINS).
- Exposure to CPG sales & distribution systems (SAP, Oracle, Salesforce).
- Experience in data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
- Prior consulting experience or client-facing role with global CPG organizations.
Pay:
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: Up to $234,000. In addition, for the current performance period, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.

As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time. You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company. In addition, you are eligible to participate in the Company 401(k) Plan after 30 days of employment, in accordance with the applicable plan terms. The Company provides for 11 paid holidays and 12 weeks of Parental Leave. We also follow a “free time” PTO policy, allowing you the flexibility to take time needed for either sick time or vacation.
