Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Surgical Services director and Board Runner Coordinator, the Surgical Scheduler is responsible for the scheduling of cases, ensures charges are entered correctly and timely, collection distribution of monthly department statistical data (Block utilization, turnover time, implant logs, charges and ordering), ensures FDA compliance on an ongoing basis with the FDA. Trains new Associates for scheduling cases and charging. Maintains BLS so that to help with transport of patients as needed. Attends all block schedule meetings, takes minutes and presents statistical data to the block scheduling committee as needed. Exhibits the values of F.I.R.S.T. (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air-conditioned area. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights and sounds. Will be exposed to noise, interruptions, and high stress levels. Long periods in a stationary position. Risks exposure to disease and infection. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently. Typically works Monday thru Friday.
Contacts With Others:
Health care providers, physicians and their associates, administrative staff and hospital support services and may have occasional contact with patients and visitors.
Equipment Used/Special Skills Required:
Type (50-60 words per minute). Computer skills with thorough knowledge of hardware, software programs, specialized printer, copier, transcribing equipment, telephone and fax machines. Skilled in use of medical terminology.
Minimum Qualifications Or Equivalents:
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent. Education in word processing systems and secretarial and clerical skills required. Also working knowledge of medical terminology. BLS Required within 6 months of hire.
Experience:
One to three years minimum required in professional (medical) or business environment, with medical terminology use, or a graduate of a business or secretarial school, with medical terminology course.
