Position Summary

The GMT Analytical Leader leads the global GMT Analytical Team, driving a unified approach to delivering robust analytical methods and innovative analytical solutions that support Global Manufacturing & Supply (GMS) deliverables.

This team is pivotal in providing analytical expertise for technology transfers, qualification projects, Co-Development projects and life cycle improvements, across internal and external manufacturing networks

The leader ensures alignment with GMS leadership and Research & Development (VMRD), fostering agile, standardized, and technology-forward analytical support, aligned with the needs of the business/customer.

Position Responsibilities

Lead the Global Technology Analytical team, unifying the global, regional and site-based colleagues, to support the current & future analytical technology needs of GMS:

  • Robust analytical methods and processes for new products.
  • Innovative solutions for analytical equipment & techniques, including automation & robotics.
  • Use of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) for better process understanding, control & process efficiencies; enable Real Time Release.
  • An agile analytical support model for priority activities & investigations – deploying Rapid Response Laboratories/Quick Turn Laboratories (QTL’s) and Contract Research Organizations (CRO’s), as needed.
  • Standardization of methods and instrumentation across sites, where warranted.
  • Sound knowledge management practices for faster and more efficient manufacturing support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop laboratory skills and capabilities to support current and future needs; attract, develop and retain scientific talent.
  • Oversee analytical method transfers and global improvement initiatives, aligned with product budgets and schedules.
  • Align with GMT platform leaders on projects to deliver the highest value with existing resources; use adaptive project management to identify, prioritize, resource, and stop projects in dynamic situations.
  • Ensure the GMT Analytical team can provide the analytical technologies required to support GMS needs – internally or using contract lab resources, depending on business needs and value.
  • Drive optimization/continuous improvement of analytical methods during Co-Development and lifecycle, through risk assessments and robustness/proof testing.  Ensure GMT Analytical representatives on Co-Development teams represent GMS interests and capabilities and collaborate to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Champion application of data analytics, statistical tools & methodologies to deliver science and data-driven solutions.
  • Champion innovative solutions for analytical equipment & techniques, including Process Analytical Technology (PAT), automation and robotics.
  • Explore expansion of the Quick Turn Lab (QTL) model to identify opportunities within GMS where rapid turnaround and data interpretation can create value.
  • Drive standardization of methods and instrumentation across sites.
  • Support efforts to ensure compliance with emerging chemical regulations.
  • Promote sound knowledge management practices through shared repositories, digital tools, consultation with compendia & scientific literature and collaboration with internal experts.
  • Manage manufacturing technology IP across internal and external manufacturing networks.
  • Conduct due diligence and technical evaluations of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) and contract labs to support sourcing decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health & safety regulations, GLP/GMP as applicable, and emerging chemical regulations.

Financial Accountability

Develop GMT Analytical budget annually (Capital & Operational expenses) and monitor and control costs to budget.

Supervision

Team size: 6-12 colleagues

Education And Experience

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or science.
  • Advanced degree or relevant certification in manufacturing preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years in pharma or animal health industry with deep expertise in analytical technology.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with chemical regulations and control of impurities preferable.

Technical Skills Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing diverse teams, fostering a productive environment that encourages teamwork and commitment to results.
  • Proven record of delivering technical initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Ability to work strategically with internal manufacturing leaders and external contract organizations.
  • Effective in multi-project management and prioritization in cross-functional environments.
  • Experience operating in diverse cultural and operational settings.
  • Ability to confidently assert a technical position in the face of opposition.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies as they become available.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and quality requirements
  • Demonstrated capability to effectively apply knowledge, lead multiple activities and balance priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English.
