The Director, Business Operations is responsible for the smooth operations of CFA Institute, Global Partnerships & Client Solutions (GPCS) teams in APAC, including China, The role acts as a strategic advisor and operations leader, reporting to the Senior Head, as a key enabler of the market strategy and execution, this role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with excellent people management, operational management and leadership skills. 

This position will be located in Hong Kong  and will be eligible for flexible working.  

The requirements of this role include:

Business Operations:

  • Support the GPCS team with improving and maintaining business operations, including the implementation and adoption of the Business Operating Models; coordinate with the GPCS  Leadership Team to ensure alignment and execution of the Division's operating plan across APAC and China, following globally consistent standards.  
  • Responsible for and integrated compliance and governance efforts for the APAC and China team. Act as the first line of defense for the APAC and China team. Work with the global risk and compliance teams, support people working on local risk and compliance, to meet this objective 
  • Lead and oversee special projects and initiatives, as assigned by the Senior Head. Lead and support people working on projects in the APAC and China office. 
  • Serve as a central point of coordination for the APAC operation’s contracts, procurement, and contract management; oversee vendor management for the team, assisting in selection, development of SOWs, onboarding, etc. Support members of the team involved in these activities.  

Business Process Optimization:

  • Manage, develop and collaborate directly with the business management teams, and the Leadership Team within the organization, ensure business participants are onboarded appropriately, with the right skills/tools to optimize delivery of stakeholder value, and support leadership in building and managing teams in APAC and China.   
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to grow a deep knowledge of the business and stakeholder needs and constraints, identify core business processes including all platforms, participants, dependencies, and constraintsLeverage these partnerships to optimize business process effectiveness and efficiency, with support teams in APAC and China. 
  • In close partnership with functional and regional team leadership, drive process to develop and report on mission and performance for the division. 

Strategic Planning:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Senior Head and Divisional HRBPs to provide confidential counsel and guidance on issues impacting the business operations 
  • Identify and implement process/system improvements, as appropriate, to increase efficiency and quality and to meet Divisional strategic goals.  
  • Collaborate with other Business Operation Directors on cross-Functional initiatives; facilitate communication and collaboration amongst stakeholders within the organization. 
  • Support strategy and annual business planning and ensure budget and expense management tracking and practices across Division meet business needs, are executed accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Advise the Senior Head on challenges and opportunities for achieving business objectives; suggest strategies to address them. 

Board & Leadership Team Reporting:

  • Assist the Senior Head in integrating departmental strategic planning across business units and develop, collect, and report on team metrics and KPIs to Senior Leaders. 
  • Provide monthly and quarterly reports on key deliverables, KPIs, and initiatives, including for the Board.  
  • Enhance and manage processes and projects, monitor performance, and report on progress and outcomes of key deliverables, KPIs, and initiatives.  

The skills & experience required for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred 
  • Proven professional experience in a business Function where people and operations management have been critical to overall success 
  • Proven professional experience in transition management, change management and working with global organizations.  
  • Demonstrated experience of successful influencing without responsibility, with a passion for developing and motivating teams, including the ability to work through teams to accomplish key objectives 
  • Experience working strategically and collaboratively across departments with drive and diplomacy; internal knowledge and experience at CFA Institute in knowing who needs to be engaged and getting complex projects preferred 
  • Demonstrated history of building strong, collaborative relationships and influencing stakeholders across a diverse range of Functions and geographies 
  • Proven experience with budget management processes, preferable on a global scale 
  • Familiarity with the principles of project management methodologies 
  • Strong financial and resource planning acumen can use technical knowledge to ensure projects are delivered on time and in budget 
  • Combined ability to give sound strategic advice to stakeholders with the knowledge and enthusiasm to oversee delivering on the tactics 
  • Must demonstrate outstanding stewardship and relationship building/management skills to expand the mission of CFA Institute  
  • Global cultural orientation and working experience 
  • Proficient using standard office software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook (include any other systems (Salesforce, Workday, NetSuite, etc.) and preferences on proficiency, familiar with, proficiency in, etc.   
  • Demonstrated outstanding judgment and mature business skills with the ability to establish a strong rapport with senior management 
  • Ability to travel internationally, on occasion, for internal meetings and events
