Job Summary

Define, lead and execute comprehensive strategic client plans for Government of Tanzania (GoT), Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs), State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and Development Partners. Ensure NBC becomes the primary banker and trusted advisor for government financing, budget execution, PPP structuring and key infrastructure projects. Drive profitable growth and champion NBC’s leadership in public sector financing and transactional banking..

Job Description​

Key Accountabilities

Sales and Service 55%

• Lead multi-year strategic engagement plans for Ministry of finance, Bank of Tanzania, State-Owned Enterprises, and key Ministries Departments and agencies.
• Originate large-ticket transactions: project finance, syndicated loans, Debit Capital Market issuance, trade finance
• Secure NBC’s share of donor inflows, government collections (GePG), and FX flows
• Build deep relationships at Permanent Secretary, Director General, Chief Executive Officer, Board Chair level, positioning NBC as the thought leader
• Grow NBC’s market share across collections, payments, payroll, deposits, lending and Foreign Exchange
• Coordinate cross-sell across Trade, Markets, Debit Capital Market, Transaction Banking, Custody
• Represent NBC at government forums, budget dialogues, PPP committees, donor roundtables
• Deliver thought leadership sessions for ministries on financing solutions and capital market trends

Business Focus 20%

.  Shape NBC’s public sector strategy, aligning with Vision 2050 and FYDP priorities (effective in 2026)

. Track portfolio revenue vs. budget, monitor pipeline conversion, and close revenue gaps

.  Optimize pricing, FTP allocation, and product mix to improve RORWA

. Identify new revenue pools from SOE reforms, privatization programs, infrastructure pipelines

. Maintain a live dashboard of policy updates, fiscal reports, donor disbursements

. Share actionable insights with product teams to create tailored solutions

Risk Focus 15%

• Lead annual credit reviews, covenant tracking, and sanction fulfilment for all exposures
• Anticipate sovereign risk events, early warning of arrears, arrear recovery actions
• Ensure strict adherence to Anti-Money L laundering/Combatting the financing of terrorism  standards on government transactions
• Act as 1st line of defense for operational, reputational and regulatory risk

People Focus 15%

.  Continuous learning and self-development through training interventions, secondments, on the job training, shadowing etc.

. Day to day coaching and development of the team i.e. operational bankers, credit/business analysts, peers etc.

.  Mentor junior RMs and analysts on government sector banking and credit structuring

.  Facilitate training sessions on public sector financing, PPP structuring, FX flows

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, or related field (master’s preferred).
• 7 years’ banking experience, with at least 4 years in government or institutional banking.
• Proven track record of business development, deposit mobilization, and stakeholder engagement.
• Familiarity with government structures and payment systems is an advantage.
