Northrop Grumman Advanced Weapons has an opening for an Operations Research Manager 2, to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in Northridge, CA.

The candidate selected for this position will have a dual role performing as a technical leader/contributor in the field of Operations Analysis/Operations Research as well as a functional manager for Performance Analysis.  As a manager, the successful candidate will have responsibility for supporting direct reports with staffing assignments, knowledge transfer, training, educational reimbursement, and the Workday performance management lifecycle (goal planning, quarterly reviews). The candidate will report to the Software Engineering Director and receive assignments through communication with the AW Program Directorate in collaboration with the AW Engineering Directorate.

Roles And Responsibilities:

A successful candidate will have the qualities and essential functional expertise to:

  • Define Operations Analysis Study Processes and Objectives, including simulation selection, model selection, DOE definition, data visualization, and documentation of regrets and assumptions.
  • Derive requirements for Modeling and Simulation products from system specifications (i.e. SRDs) as well as from R&D objectives.
  • Be able to serve as an interpreter between the Military Operator Community and Northrop Grumman Systems Engineers and Chief Engineers.
  • Coach and develop staff by providing an environment that encourages ongoing professional growth. Ensure staff receive the appropriate training and skill development opportunities to be successful in their roles.
  • Collaborate with peer Department Managers and the Director to develop a strategy for organizational growth and retention.
  • Take lead responsibility for departmental performance ensuring deliverables meet technical quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Provide resources for proposals; participate in proposal writing as needed; develop, review, and approve Basis of Estimates (BOEs) as needed. 
  • Work with Engineering Management and Program Management to ensure all programs are adequately and appropriately staffed.
  • Establish annual employee goals and conduct periodic performance appraisals against the goals.
  • Manage hiring activities, including creating job requisitions, recruiting, interviewing, and making hiring decisions in a group that is in the process of expanding.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of related experience, or Master’s with 6 years related experience, or PhD with 4 years related experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related STEM field.
  • U.S Citizenship with an active DoD Secret Clearance prior to starting.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Special Access Program (SAP) access.
  • Deep understanding of US Military Aircraft CONOPS and CONEMPS.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working specifically in Operation Analysis, Operations Research, or Mission Engineering.
  • Experience as an analyst working with AFSIM, Suppressor, BRAWLER, EADSIM, ESAMS, STORM, THUNDER, or equivalent industry simulation tool.
  • Experience creating, leading, executing, and out-briefing Operations Analysis Studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing analysis on air-launched weapons.
  • Experience as a Lead Analyst (or equivalent) for a major development program ($1B+).
  • Experience as an IPTL, Technical Lead, Product Owner or equivalent technical leadership positions involving planning and allocating technical labor amongst a team.
  • Conversant in the language of Airborne Tactics.
  • Experience managing R&D projects (internally or contractually funded).

Primary Level Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
