This role is part of the team responsible for accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and financial modeling for Non-kWh business lines. The position involves planning, prioritizing, and coordinating processes with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities may include supporting annual budget development, preparing month-end journal entries, analyzing income statements, capital analysis, and end-of-year financial projections. The role covers both regulated and unregulated revenues and expenses, as well as unregulated capital for the Lighting & Smart Services business line. Additional duties may involve account reconciliation, researching accounting issues, executing and testing internal controls, collaborating with internal and external auditors, and maintaining documentation. The position is also responsible for meeting reporting deadlines and quarterly financial reporting.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Compile and report monthly financial analyses and projections.
  • Communicate budgets, forecasts, and results clearly to management.
  • Build positive relationships with managers, peers, and customers.
  • Present complex financial topics to non-financial audiences, including executives.
  • Spot improvement opportunities, share best practices, and support business growth.
  • Resolve issues promptly.
  • Analyze information and propose alternative solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively in group problem-solving.
  • Provide clear, concise communication to internal customers.

Candidates that meet the below criteria are encouraged to apply:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, engineering or other related degree required.

Experience:

  • Over 5 years' experience in finance and accounting, including planning, modeling, and/or budgeting.
  • Proficient in accounting practices, utility accounting, accruals, and statements.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent team player with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing business needs.
  • Experience with databases and ad hoc reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required; familiarity with Southern Company financial systems (JETS, PowerPlan, CSS, Oracle) preferred.

The successful candidate will report to a team that sits in the Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL.
