Salary £30,288 – £31,611 per annum 

Location: Abbey Lane Children’s Centre

This is not a hybrid role – it requires the successful candidate to be present in person in the workplace Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.

We’re looking for a hands-on, reliable Building Services Officer to support the day-to-day running of the Abbey Lane Children’s Centre. You’ll be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for staff and service users.

Key Duties Include:

• Opening/closing the building and managing access
• Fire alarm and compliance checks (weekly/monthly)
• Minor maintenance and repairs (e.g. lighting, blockages)
• Routine building inspections and safety reporting
• Room setup and porterage duties
• Site cleaning, hygiene, and infection control
• Acting as First Aider and Fire Warden

About You:

• Facilities or caretaking experience
• Knowledge of Health & Safety standards
• Flexible, practical, and team-oriented
• Willing to work on-site full-time (no hybrid option)
• A clear enhanced DBS check is required

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
