Elective Home Education (EHE) Lead
Lancashire County Council has a very exciting new development in the field of Elective Home Education (EHE). The local authority is seeking to appoint a EHE Lead to join the Inclusion service. This role will lead on promoting inclusion and ensuring EHE families feel supported and guided to access resources, groups and provision in the community. The successful candidate will implement the EHE legislation and work on any new legislation released to ensure the local authority is delivering on the statutory duties.
This post will be located within the Specialist Teaching Service team and consists of teachers, high level teaching assistants, technicians and support workers who support multiple disciplines. The service supports early years children, children and young people with sensory needs, Autistic Spectrum Condition, ADHD, physical disabilities and learning needs. The service also supports pupils who have been excluded access suitable provision and ensure the Section 19 legislation is implemented for pupils with medical needs, who are excluded or who require additional support to ensure education is suitable.
The Role Will Consist Of:
- Ensuring the decision to elect home education is chosen for the right reasons and a suitable education is received.
- To support schools and partners physically throughout Lancashire through holding education support meetings to ensure suitable education is accessed.
- To be innovative and solution-focused when supportively challenging settings to meet the needs of children and young people before they are home educated.
- Using knowledge of education and support accessible to ensure inclusion and most appropriate decision making.
- To analyse EHE data, identify key trends and share this data to schools, partners and LCC services.
- To liaise with interfacing services such as Alternative Provision, Attendance, SEND, Children Missing Education and Education Improvement services.
- To ensure we have child and young person views at the forefront of decision making.
- To have oversight of the EHE support worker team and ensure concerns are promptly addressed and referrals are processed as timely as possible.
- To review the Elective Home Education practice and approaches in line with relevant legislation.
- To deliver training and key messages to wider partners, settings and professionals.

We Are Looking For:
- Someone with a passion for inclusion.
- Recent experience supporting vulnerable children, young people and their families.
- Good understanding of the Elective Home Education legislation, Children Missing Education legislation and Attendance knowledge and an ability to reference these legislations in relation to this role.
- Knowledge of SEND support and the education, health and care needs assessment process.
- A leader who is willing to learn and develop and grow with a new team and clear focus.
