The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 100% Nursing Practice Leader to assist with various nursing initiatives and processes within Children's Perioperative Nursing.

Position Specific Summary:

The Nursing Practice Leader for the Perioperative Nursing Division provides leadership in clinical care coordination/specialized nursing care, clinical education of nursing staff and health professionals, or use clinical nursing expertise in improving nursing and health care through the management of staff education and development.

Lead nursing practice and patient care at the meso/macro system level (i.e., service line, division or department level). Provide leadership for nursing practice or service line(s) based on systematic evaluation, evidence-based practice and research. Assure standard of care delivery and competency of staff across the units and services (macro level). May oversee specialized patient care services (Macro level).

Specialized Services for Nursing Care

Support the conduct of research and translate findings from evidence-based research into clinical practice. Lead evaluation and implementation of clinical technologies that support patient care.

Provide Education

Provide expert specialty-level education to healthcare staff, patients, students, or residents. Communicate detailed, complex medical and technical information to a variety of audiences.

Compliance with Internal Policies and External Regulations for Safe and Effective Care Delivery and Health Profession Education

Utilize expert knowledge and skill of compliance standards. Lead development and implementation of procedures and share responsibility for Quality Improvement (QI) plan with appropriate nursing leaders.

Human Resources Management

Use expert knowledge to supervise care delivery of nursing staff, students, or residents, providing evaluative feedback and recommendations regarding performance. Hire, develops, and manages the performance of staff and assures compliance with UI policies and procedures.

  • Percent of Time: 100% - 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: Full time position Monday - Friday with occasional administrative call. No weekends.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field. If Master's degree is in a related field Baccalaureate in Nursing is required
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa
  • Current professional certification in relevant nursing or clinical specialty or role nursing area is required within 12 months of eligibility
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience caring for patients in a tertiary or quaternary care setting
  • Demonstrates skills for leading change and implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience demonstrated skill in developing/implementing/evaluating clinical programs, staff education and development, and quality improvement. 
  • Demonstrated skill in teaching live, online, or hybrid.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills serving within or leading a multi-disciplinary team
  • Considerable experience utilizing computer software applications for documentation and education purposes (Microsoft Office required, ERMA/ICON/ CQ desired)
  • Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so.

  • Member/involvement in professional organizations​​​​​​
  • Basic Life Support instructor
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certified
