Position Overview

The Director, Corporate Communications, Greater China, will lead the development and execution of corporate communications strategies in Greater China ensuring alignment with the global communications framework while tailoring approaches to the local market.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications, this role will focus on driving the company’s narrative in Greater China through media relations, brand storytelling, colleague communications, stakeholder engagement, and issues management, with a strong emphasis on Chinese-language communications and protocols. This role will serve as a trusted partner to regional leadership and a cultural and linguistic bridge between the regional market and the global communications team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications in Greater China

  • Develop and implement communications strategies that reflect both global priorities and local market needs.
  • Localize corporate messaging into Chinese-language content that resonates with employees, media, regulators, and external stakeholders in Greater China.
  • Advise corporate and regional leadership on communications strategies to build the company’s profile and reputation in China.

Media Relations & Brand Storytelling

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Chinese-language media, including top-tier national, business, lifestyle, and trade outlets.
  • Proactively pitch brand stories and secure meaningful media coverage that enhances corporate reputation and visibility in Greater China.
  • Manage and respond to media inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and culturally appropriate messaging.

Thought Leadership & Executive Visibility

  • Support the promotion of thought leadership initiatives in Greater China, including Chinese-language bylines, op-eds, whitepapers, and executive commentary.
  • Secure and manage executive speaking engagements at leading industry forums, academic institutions, and policy roundtables in Greater China.
  • Elevate the profile of company executives in Greater China through targeted media, digital, and stakeholder engagement strategies.

Internal Communications

  • Translate and adapt global corporate announcements, ensuring they are effective and relevant for Chinese-speaking colleagues.
  • Support internal events, leadership communications, recruitment and colleague engagement campaigns across the region.

Stakeholder & Partner Engagement

  • Build relationships with key external stakeholders in Greater China, including government agencies, industry forums, professional associations, and charitable partners.
  • Develop communications strategies to support corporate social responsibility initiatives and local partnerships.

Crisis & Issues Management

  • Support crisis and issues management in Greater China, ensuring rapid, accurate, and culturally sensitive communications.
  • Provide real-time local insights and Chinese-language counsel to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications, and global leadership during issues affecting the region.

Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Manage regional communications resources and agencies, ensuring delivery of high-quality communications outcomes.
  • Partner closely with the Senior Director, Corporate Communications, and colleagues in Brand Marketing, Social Media, Development, S&M, Legal, and HR to ensure alignment.
  • Act as a key liaison between global and Greater China teams, ensuring consistent messaging while respecting cultural context.
 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10 years of progressive experience in corporate communications or public relations, with strong exposure to Greater China markets.
  • Native fluency in Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken), with excellent proficiency in English.
  • Proven track record of managing media relations and corporate storytelling in China.
  • Strong network of relationships with Chinese-language media, industry associations, and government-related communications forums.
  • Experience handling corporate crisis communications in the Greater China context.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and translation/adaptation skills for Chinese-language content.
