Position Overview
The Senior Director of Corporate Communications will support the company’s global corporate communications strategy within the broader Marketing and Communications department, overseeing both internal and external communications.
This role will be responsible for shaping the company’s corporate narrative, driving strategic communications initiatives, and ensuring consistent and impactful engagement with internal stakeholders, external audiences, partners, owners, investors and the media.
Working in partnership with peers in brand marketing, social media, regional marketing leaders and other marketing and communications disciplines, this role ensures a unified and consistent voice for the company and play an essential role in enhancing the company’s reputation and stakeholder trust globally.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive corporate communications strategy aligned with the company’s vision, mission, and business objectives.
- Serve as the primary custodian of corporate messaging, ensuring clarity, consistency, and resonance across all channels.
Internal Communications
- Lead internal corporate announcements to foster transparency, trust, and alignment across the organization.
- Manage internal stakeholder communications (e.g., Communique with Board of Directors, regional heads, business leaders).
- Support on communications to colleagues that build brand alignment and engagement across all levels of the organization.
External Communications & Media Relations
- Proactively pitch and secure compelling brand stories in top-tier media, trade publications, and relevant industry outlets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key business journalists, editors and other corporate partners, including charities, cultural institutions, industry forums, and professional associations.
- Manage external stakeholder communications with owners, investors, regulators, and partners.
- Lead corporate reputation-building initiatives, including corporate award submission, thought leadership and executive visibility programs.
- Oversee executive speaker engagements and provide communication support for public appearances.
- Manage executive social media presence (e.g., LinkedIn), ensuring alignment with corporate narrative and enhancing visibility of leadership.
- Partner with senior leadership on external-facing sustainability and corporate responsibility messaging.
Crisis Management
- Oversee crisis communications for internal stakeholders, ensuring timely, accurate, and sensitive information delivery.
- Develop and lead crisis communication strategies to protect and uphold the company’s reputation and to ensure alignment of messaging across leadership.
- Provide consultation and support to executives and business leaders during sensitive or high-impact issues.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing corporate communications team.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with Brand Marketing, Social Media, the greater S&M team, HR, Legal, and other business units.
- Manage external communications agencies and media relations partners to extend the team’s capabilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing both internal and external communications for a global organization.
- Experience in crisis communication management and media relations at senior levels.
- Strong executive presence and ability to advise and influence executive leaders.
- Excellent writing, storytelling, and public speaking skills.
- Experience leveraging digital and social media platforms for executive engagement.
- Highly adaptable and able to thrive in fast-paced, complex environments.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and project management skills.
