Speech Language Pathologist – Neuro Acute Care

Mayo Clinic in Arizona is seeking a medical Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our nationally recognized team. This position requires advanced clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of speech, language, cognitive, swallowing, and voice disorders. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the SLP will contribute to patient-centered care through evidence-based assessment and intervention in alignment with Mayo Clinic’s high standards of excellence, including the opportunity to serve as a clinical instructor for graduate students in speech pathology, clinical fellows, and other medical professionals. 

Depending on departmental assignment, the role includes specialized responsibilities and competencies tailored to patient populations within Neurology or Otorhinolaryngology.

Master's degree in speech-language pathology

* advanced skill set and expertise working with the head and neck cancer population. The candidate must specialize in the diagnostics and management of swallowing, jaw opening, lymphatics, and speech  in head and neck cancer patients undergoing surgery and/or radiation treatment.

*The ideal candidate would also have experience with alaryngeal speech and pulmonary rehabilitation in the total laryngectomy population. Ideally, the candidate is familiar with clinical care pathways in head and neck cancer and holds certification/training with the following interventions: McNeill Dysphagia Therapy program, Pharyngocise, manual lymphatic drainage, and manual therapy/myofascial release.
* Current Arizona licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist
* Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association or academic equivalent with clinical fellowship year pending completion
* Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Specific to Department of Neurology: Experience evaluating and treating adults with neurogenic communication impairments Experience with brain injured patients Experience or interest in augmentative/alternative communication systems Experience evaluating and treating children with communication impairments Experience evaluating and treating patients with dysphagia 

Specific to Department of Otorhinolaryngology: Skilled in rigid and flexible video strobolaryngoscopy. Experience evaluating and treating adults with voice and voice related disorders Allied Health Staff in the Division of Speech Pathology are encouraged to achieve Board Certification by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences (BC-ANCDS) and/or awarded Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders by the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S).
