The Senior Process Control Engineer role is responsible for the full lifecycle of process control initiatives, from identification and implementation to performance monitoring and continuous improvement. The primary goal is to drive operational efficiency, enhance safety and performance, and ensure that all process control projects and services meet strategic and operational targets.
This position will achieve its purpose by:
- Leading the identification, analysis, and implementation of process optimization opportunities as Subject Matter Expert
- Developing, executing, and improving Advanced Process Control (APC), Real-Time Optimization (RTO), PID tuning, and Alarm Rationalization projects.
- Providing expert technical guidance and support to engineering, maintenance, and operational team in process control.
- Guiding and mentoring junior engineers in process control and optimization principles.
- Ensuring all activities align with company strategies, values, and best international practices, while adhering to all HSE and legal standards.

Typical Responsibilities
- Senior Process Control and Optimization: Analyze process data to identify opportunities for advanced process control (APC) and optimization. This includes developing and implementing strategies to improve plant efficiency, increase product yield, and reduce energy consumption.
- Control System Tuning and Management: Monitor control loop performance, conduct regular reviews, and implement changes to reduce variability and improve overall process stability.
- Alarm Management and Rationalization: Manage the plant's alarm system, leading alarm rationalization efforts to ensure alarms are effective, compliant with industry standards, and provide meaningful information to operators. This involves reducing nuisance alarms and improving operator response.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Analyze and provide recommendations to resolve operational issues with a direct business impact. This includes using advanced troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and correct problems within control systems and balancing various considerations such as economics and operational stability.
- Project Management and Design Review: Participate and execute design work for process control projects. Participate in technical evaluation of proposals, Review complex engineering designs from internal and external resources to ensure alignment with control strategy intent, system requirements, and project goals.
- Performance Monitoring and Improvement: Continuously monitor of APC application’s performance, control loops, and specific equipment. Use data analysis and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to propose and implement corrective actions for performance improvement.
- Safety and Compliance: Participate in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies for any modifications to existing facilities, ensuring all changes comply with safety standards and best practices

Experience:
- 10 + years of relevant experience in process control, automation, or a related field within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry.
- Experience in non-linear APC ( e.g Polymers)( Preferred)
- Experience in RTO
- Experience in AI ( Preferred)

Technical:
- Demonstrated proficiency with at least one of the key APC software suites such as Aspen DMC, PACE, or Honeywell’s Profit suite
- Experience in PID tuning, control loop performance analysis,
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of at least one DCS (Distributed Control Systems) platforms such as Yokogawa, Honeywell, Schneider DCS, etc.
- Strong Understanding of refinery operations, petrochemicals and economics
- Knowledge of alarm rationalization such as alarm prioritization, alarm suppression, bad actor analysis.
- Knowledge of project management, from initial scope definition and vendor selection to system commissioning and performance monitoring.
Knowledge of Steady state and dynamic process modelling and simulations
