- Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm)
- Location: This position is fully remote (must be located within the U.S.A.)
- Compensation: $20.00/hour

Intern, Newsroom - Marketplace:
As the Marketplace Newsroom Intern, you will be supporting our reporters and editors producing the journalism that makes us the leading business news franchise in the country. Our team is a dynamic, deadline-focused newsroom that is unique among public radio operations in its informal yet informative tone. You will also have the opportunity to work with our longform/special projects team to produce the next season of our award-winning climate solutions podcast, “How We Survive.”
Key Learning Goals:
Through immersive learning and real-world projects, our goal is for you to:
- Become skilled at pitching and producing longform and special projects
- Learn skills necessary to file stories on deadline
- Develop narration skills
Responsibilities:
In this hands-on role, you will work directly with reporters, editors and staff with the following:
- Pitch and produce longform/special projects in the newsroom
- Participate in group edits and feedback sessions for special projects in the newsroom
- Assist Managing Editor and Deputies in coordinating cross-newsroom communication and collaboration on a daily basis
- Assist reporters and editors in finding and interviewing sources, conceptualizing and executing reporter-led stories
- Train alongside an editor and voice coach to elevate vocal and narration skills

- Participate in robust on-boarding experience
- Professional development: on-the-job training, workforce readiness training, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.

Required Qualifications:
- Students who are currently enrolled and have completed one year of their post-secondary program, are enrolled in a graduate program, or have earned a degree in the last 18 months.
- Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, roughly 9:00 – 5:00pm) for the duration of this internship
- Demonstrated familiarity with Marketplace itself and its different arms: as a listener, reader, social media follower
- Must have the ability to write clearly and accurately under strict deadlines and work independently
- Must have strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft office products with the ability to learn new software programs.
- A demonstrated interest (not necessary experience) in audio journalism
Preferred Qualifications:
- A demonstrated interest in journalism (i.e. produced work for publication, worked at school newspaper/radio, etc.)
- Self-starter with an appetite for learning audio skills
