Join us in our mission to raise the economic intelligence of the nation: to connect what’s happening in the global and national economy to the decisions we make with our own wallets, and to make us feel less alone about our financial choices. As the Marketplace Podcasts Intern, you'll collaborate on our award-winning portfolio of financial literacy podcasts, including a weekly version of our show about money and life, This Is Uncomfortable, and our seasonal podcast for kids and families, Million Bazillion.
This internship is a great opportunity if you want to pursue a career in journalism and podcasting. You'll develop your skills as an emerging journalist to create financial literacy programming with an emphasis on explainers and human-centered news-you-can-use - working with an experienced team who will guide them thoughtfully. This position will collaborate across platforms and departments and be responsible for work on podcasts, the website, social, and broadcast.
Key Learning Goals:
Our Podcast teams are small and collaborative. You will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills -- from technical skills, like recording and editing audio, to soft skills like communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. Through this immersive learning experience, you will learn:
- Excellence in producing and writing for economic and financial explainers, for youth and adults
- Cross Platform proficiency - working alongside producers to expand materials on new platforms to reach new audiences
Responsibilities:
In this hands-on role, you will assist the production team in the following ways:
- Assisting producers on Million Bazillion and This Is Uncomfortable in brainstorming, booking, prepping, editing tape, preparing scripts, implementing feedback, fact checking, etc.
- Producing solo assignments for Million Bazillion and This Is Uncomfortable, including producing whole episodes from start to finish
- Collaborating with additional digital teams to create web and social extensions, working alongside producers to do so

Programming:
- Participate in robust on-boarding experience
- Professional development: on-the-job training, workforce readiness training, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.
- Participate in brown bag sessions to gain broader perspectives of the organization
Required Qualifications:
- Students who are currently enrolled and have completed one year of their post-secondary program, are enrolled in a graduate program, or have earned a degree in the last 18 months.
- Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, roughly 9:00 – 5:00pm) for the duration of this internship
- Demonstrate interest/experience in journalism and/or financial literacy
- Familiar with editing audio (e.g. cute tapes)
- Consumer of podcasts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education or comedy or creative writing a plus
