Job Description:
As an editorial intern with Boston magazine, you’ll play a crucial role in the magazine’s production, gaining experience in fact-checking, writing, research and more. The ideal candidate for this role is a self-starter who can manage their time well, juggling various tasks and deadlines at once, with a passion for local magazine journalism and all things Boston.
This is a remote internship with opportunities for in-person work sporadically throughout the semester at the Boston Globe’s 53 State Street office.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in fact-checking front-of-book stories ranging from lifestyle to home, weddings, and food coverage.
- Contribute to fact-checking and research for the magazine’s listings, including Top Schools, Top Lawyers, and Top Dentists.
- Provide research and writing assistance for Boston magazine’s staff. This may include background research for stories, contributing sidebars to larger features, and other editorial tasks.
- Contribute stories to the website and print magazines—specifically service and “things to do” guides, restaurant openings, and real estate pieces—when needed, involving a combination of interviews, internet research, and on-the-ground reporting.
- Update evergreen digital guides for timeliness and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Current college student or recent graduate
- Interest in magazine journalism and passion for all things Boston
- Previous experience in editorial roles (newswriting, reporting, editing) preferred
- Knowledge of or familiarity with the Boston area preferred
- Self-starter mentality and positive attitude
- Strong time management and communication skills
- Proficiency in Google platforms including Docs, Sheets, and Gmail.
- A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
