Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
NBC4 and T52 Los Angeles is looking for a dynamic Specials & Consumer Producer who is passionate about creating memorable, impactful storytelling across multiple platforms. This role is ideal for a journalist with strong field producing skills and a vision for long-form, docuseries-style projects, as well as day-to-day consumer investigative content that resonates with Southern California audiences.
Responsibilities
- Produce and field-produce consumer and special projects, including docuseries and long-form storytelling for broadcast and digital.
- Research, write, and edit high-impact investigative and enterprise content for TV, streaming, and social platforms.
- Collaborate closely with the Responds investigative reporter on stories, teases, and multiplatform specials.
- Develop original ideas and enterprise consumer stories with lasting audience impact.
- Act as a key liaison with NBC’s Consumer Investigation Center and Telemundo’s Responde unit.
- Build and maintain a robust network of sources, experts, and community contacts to fuel investigations.
- Monitor, vet, and follow up on viewer tips and consumer concerns.
- Identify emerging consumer trends and transform them into compelling stories.
- Oversee multiplatform projects, including digital video series, podcasts, and social media-first storytelling.
- Provide editorial guidance, manage tips and records requests, and conduct on-camera and field interviews.
- Lead investigative projects that may include undercover reporting or surveillance when necessary.
- Support newscasts as a writer/producer when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field—or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in television news production, with strong emphasis on field producing.
- Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must be willing to work full-time on-site at our NBC4 Los Angeles newsroom.
- Valid driver’s license required.

Desired Characteristics:
- Minimum 3 years of consumer investigative or long-form producing experience.
- Proven track record of producing docuseries or specials that deliver memorable, high-quality storytelling.
- Field producing and interview expertise, including work with photojournalists and editors.
- Experience with non-linear editing and news photojournalism.
- Strong writing and producing skills under deadline, without compromising accuracy or creativity.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws as they apply to investigations and undercover reporting.
- Excellent research skills, including data analysis and open records requests.
- Understanding social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, etc.) and emerging storytelling formats.
- Strong editorial judgment, journalistic ethics, and familiarity with libel laws.
- Collaborative spirit with the ability to communicate and lead across teams.
Additional Requirements:
Salary: $130,000 to $150,000
Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
