Are you passionate about transforming data into actionable insights?

We are looking for a talented data analyst/senior data analyst to help drive an exciting phase of growth within the Cornerstone division of Penguin Random House.

You’ll be working alongside the Marketing Director and will lead on data insights for both marketing and editorial teams, reporting across both campaign activity and consumer behaviour online, to inform our promotion strategy and ultimately, the titles we publish.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about taking a blended approach to data across social/search insights and campaign metrics and can translate those findings in compelling and visual ways for our talented promotion and publishing teams. The role will be varied and constantly evolving.

Cornerstone was one of the first publishing houses to embed a data analyst in their team and we are keen to find a dynamic analyst who will help us retain our competitive edge and take our data approach forward, particularly with the arrival of AI tools. We need someone who is experienced, confident and resourceful in drawing strategic insights from data analysis – connecting the dots between various data sources to truly understand purchase decisions for books and to help spot the next big opportunity, driving our campaign results and overall performance.

The role will be a mixture of project-based work and day-to-day insight and analysis, plus tool and product/dashboard development. Some key responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Analysing multiple third-party data sources to build a full picture of trends and opportunities
  • Helping pinpoint conversation, demand and sales spikes to inform our campaign activity
  • Proactively engaging with business stakeholders to understand their questions and requirements, and provide data-driven insights to address them
  • Building dashboards and reports to visualize data for use by internal teams (marketing and publishing) and, where appropriate, authors
  • Leading on analysis of digital paid media activity (across social, search and digital display) monitoring performance, setting KPIs and benchmarks (alongside our central digital team) and advising marketers on optimisation while leading on liaison with our external digital marketing agency
  • Developing segmentation strategy for perennial bestsellers, leveraging internal tools to identify customer behaviour that can then inform sustain campaigns that drive sales
  • Larger desk research, social listening and insight projects, to deliver more expansive trend reports for publishing, marketing and publicity teams and reach and impact reports for marketing and publicity
  • Utilise digital skillsets to support audience development strategies. Report on organic social campaigns and work with teams to implement audience growth and engagement plans for key imprint and author channels
  • Maintaining division tool stack and existing dashboards to ensure we have access to the right data in order to retain our competitive edge (including You Gov, Nielsen Books & Consumer/TCM, Talk Walker, Influencer Intelligence, Hype Auditor, Google Trends, Power BI sales report dashboards and more)
  • Leading on the development of Cornerstone’s main Power BI dashboards and reports and helping to define the Custom GPTs that will support key division workflows
  • Continually researching and assessing wider tech and data solutions and processes to improve our capabilities and train others in team where appropriate – liaising with central data science/data visualisation, digital marketing, audience insight and AI teams to share learning

What You’Ll Bring

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in business analysis and problem-solving, with a focus on using data and insights to drive business decisions
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a numeric mindset and comfortable interpreting large and blended data sets
  • Digital marketing analyst experience, ideally with cultural or entertainment brands
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and ability to use data and visuals to drive clear recommendations and actionable insights and to communicate plans to senior executives in a compelling way
  • Advanced internet research and problem-solving skills
  • Strong project management skills, managing internal and external stakeholders, and multiple tasks at once
  • Passion for social media and platform trends
  • Confidence with social and search and self-serve ads platforms and analytics (Meta, Google, Tik Tok etc)
  • Data visualisation and dashboard development experience (ideally PowerBI or equivalent)
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in the use of Excel and Powerpoint
  • Experience with AI application (Chat GPT Enterprise and in developing Custom GPTs)
  • Some experience with larger datasets/warehouses (Snowflake) and coding/SQL or Python
  • Above average written and verbal English communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and high attention to detail
  • Good presentation skills
  • Ability to react quickly within a fast-paced environment

Salary

£35,000-50,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. This is a hybrid role, working three days a week in our London Office at Embassy Gardens.
