About The Role
The main function of the Medical Records Technician (HIM Quality and Data Analytics) role is to generate, manage, and share daily reports across all areas of Health Information Management. This position also involves monitoring software performance, identifying issues, and communicating them to HIM leadership.
Responsibilities
What You’Ll Do
- Provides patient-centered service with a friendly and safe environment.
- Communicates clearly and resolves concerns promptly.
- Maintains professionalism and supports team efforts to meet service goals.
- Demonstrates respect for patient rights and models service excellence.
- Greets patients and visitors courteously, explains procedures, and supports appointment adherence.
- Schedules, confirms, and cancels appointments accurately; conducts reminder calls and pre-registration.
- Manages real-time check-in and check-out processes.
- Registers patients accurately, verifies data, and secures required documentation.
- Ensures insurance, referrals, and pre-authorizations are properly handled.
- Answers phone calls, takes messages, and follows up on inquiries.
- Updates electronic records and coordinates with hospitals and physician offices.
- Handles patient intake, sends information packets, and manages MyChart follow-ups.
- Maintains organized filing systems and ensures timely scanning of medical documents.
- Assists with billing, collects payments, and prepares reports and statistics.
- Follows patient identification policies and maintains strong customer relations.
- Adheres to hospital compliance standards and stays updated on regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
What You’Ll Bring
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of clerical experience including receptionist and scheduling duties.
- Experience in a medical office setting and billing preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic registration/medical record systems.
- Strong customer service skills required.
- Ability to multitask and communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese, or French preferred.
- Handles difficult or emotional customer situations professionally.
- Responds promptly to customer needs and feedback; meets service commitments.
- Maintains confidentiality and listens actively; remains open to change.
- Supports team spirit and contributes positively to team success.
- Able to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Applies common sense to follow instructions and solve routine problems.

Compensation
In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly range for this position is TC1700:$24.62- $ $25.12- $ 25.87 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
