About The Role
As Engineering Director, you'll spearhead our Microsoft-focused engineering teams delivering enterprise-grade solutions that power our business. You'll champion innovation across .NET, MS Office, SharePoint, Power Platform, and Azure while implementing cutting-edge AI and Gen AI solutions that keep Swiss Re at the forefront of technology-enabled transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership: Build, grow, and inspire an elite team of engineers with deep expertise in Microsoft technologies. Foster a culture of technical mastery, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Technology Delivery Excellence: Drive consistent adoption of SDLC practices, DevSecOps, test automation, and cloud-native engineering to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery.
- Technology Expertise: Lead engineering delivery across a large technology stack such as Java, .NET, MS Office development (including add-ins and templates), SharePoint solutions, Power Platform, Palantir and Azure-based services. Expand engineering capability into AI and GenAI orchestration, creating enterprise-ready patterns and solutions.
- Change Leadership: Drive adoption of the Target Operating Model, ensuring smooth integration into delivery processes and team structures.
- Collaboration & Influence: Partner closely with GDTO and Data & Tech Group Functions leadership to align delivery with enterprise technology direction. Manage capacity constraints effectively via business value prioritization process.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Translate business challenges into actionable technology solutions. Provide clear options and guide stakeholders toward pragmatic, value-driven outcomes.
- Engineering Culture & Talent Pipeline: Build succession and talent pipelines, including graduate and student programs, to strengthen long-term engineering capability.
About The Team
You'll be joining Swiss Re's Corporate Functions InfoTech team, reporting directly to the Head of Corporate Functions InfoTech as a key member of the leadership team. Your engineering organization will be central to Swiss Re's technology transformation, working across business units and IT teams to deliver solutions that drive efficiency, innovation, and competitive advantage. The team collaborates with stakeholders globally to ensure that Swiss Re leverages its Microsoft technology ecosystem to deliver secure, scalable, and sustainable solutions that enable business growth and operational excellence.
About You
You're a visionary technology leader who combines deep technical expertise with exceptional people leadership. You understand how to build high-performing engineering teams that consistently deliver quality solutions while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. You're equally comfortable discussing technical architecture with engineers as you are presenting strategic roadmaps to executive stakeholders.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of experience leading application development engineering teams, ideally in global, enterprise-scale settings
- Preferred expertise in multiple technologies: Java, .NET, Azure, SharePoint, Power Platform, MS Office development (incl. VBA, add-ins), and related frameworks
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in AI/GenAI orchestration and design patterns
- Demonstrated ability to scale engineering practices: SDLC, DevSecOps, cloud-native delivery, test automation
- Track record of developing engineering talent and shaping organizational culture
- Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at senior levels
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with fluency in English
- Experience in financial services, insurance, or reinsurance industries
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and scaled agile frameworks
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between EUR 5,200 and EUR 8,700 per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
