Job Description

The Retail Sales Associate plays a key role in creating a fun, welcoming, and memorable shopping experience by offering knowledgeable, personalized guidance on winter gear, apparel, and accessories. This role goes beyond transactions by focusing on meaningful guest interactions and building lasting relationships through exceptional service. By anticipating guest needs and delivering attentive, one-on-one support, the Retail Sales Associate helps turn first-time visitors into loyal Aspen Snowmass guests. This position reports to the Store Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Welcome each guest with a friendly, attentive approach that reflects a high standard of service and encourages engagement 
  • Listen actively to understand guest needs and recommend products and solutions that enhance their experience and increase sales 
  • Demonstrate product features, benefits, and usage to help guests make informed purchasing decisions 
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of winter gear, apparel, and accessories to confidently answer questions and drive sales 
  • Operate the point-of-sale system accurately to process purchases, apply discounts, and manage returns or exchanges efficiently 
  • Accurately count, balance, and reconcile tills to ensure financial integrity at the start and end of each shift 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor, using merchandising techniques that maximize product visibility and sales potential 
  • Support back-of-house operations such as organizing stockrooms, replenishing displays, and assisting with product receiving to keep inventory flow smooth 
  • Monitor for security concerns, help deter theft, and promptly report inventory or cash discrepancies to management 
  • Collaborate with teammates to achieve sales goals while providing a seamless and service-first retail environment 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in retail sales, preferably in a fast-paced or high-volume guest service environment, preferred 
  • At least 1 year of experience providing direct customer service with a focus on solution-oriented sales, preferred 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of retail products, apparel, and gear, with the ability to align features and benefits to guest needs 
  • Familiarity with merchandising strategies and visual standards that support sales and guest engagement 
  • Understanding of company policies, point-of-sale procedures, and retail operations best practices 
  • Knowledge of United States currency, pricing strategies, and transaction handling 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based retail systems used for transactions, communication, and reporting 
  • Demonstrated retail selling skills with the ability to build guest trust and guide purchasing decisions through personalized service 
  • Ability to take initiative by maintaining clean, organized displays and identifying opportunities to improve the sales floor 
  • Ability to stay adaptable and productive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of guest focus 
  • Strong collaboration skills with a team-first mindset and a shared commitment to service excellence 
  • Clear communication in English; Spanish, Portuguese, or other language skills helpful in supporting international guests 
  • Consistent delivery of friendly, knowledgeable, and solution-oriented service that enhances the guest experience and drives repeat business 

Additional Information

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Kneeling and bending may be required
  • Regularly work indoors with no adverse conditions. Some positions require exposure to outdoor elements or a combination of both indoors and outdoors and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50)
