Job Title: Transportation Technician 3
Summary: An advanced level position that ensures safe and efficient traffic movement and monitors roadways including detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents, congestion, and travel time imbalances. The initial contract will be for about 90 days but is subject to extension upon good performance. Two employees are needed for a midnight shift (H Shift) - Wednesday at 12:00 A.M. until 7:30 A.M., Thursday to Saturday from 12:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M.
Responsibilities:
- Operate various computer-based traffic management systems to manage traffic and incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions.
- Monitor roadways via surveillance cameras and detection systems.
- Monitor all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the system.
- Maintain advanced knowledge on the operation of all traffic equipment, computers, and software associated with the traffic systems.
- Utilize traffic equipment for incident management and the improvement of travel time, safety, and quality of life of the traveling motorists and toll customers.
- Check the accuracy and validity of the messages displayed on all Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and 511 systems.
- Enter incident information into computer systems using traffic software.
- Familiarize with roadways and understand the purpose and location of each traffic device, such as detector stations, CCTV, and 511.
- Alert operator staff to new and existing memos and use Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents.
- Confer with partners such as highway patrol, Service Patrols, local law enforcement, Fire Rescue, and adjacent Traffic Management Centers to coordinate resources for incidents affecting regional travel.
- Dispatch Service Patrols and assist with other tasks, such as phone calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Dispatch or call center experience is a plus.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to established procedures.
- Proficiency in operating computer-based systems and software relevant to traffic management.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with various partners and agencies.
- Ability to work the specified midnight shifts.
