Security Officer

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations. 

The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.

Job Description

The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of RMGC personnel, assets, and property. Reporting directly to the Security Supervisor, this position covers duties including access control, patrolling, CCTV monitoring, radio communication, and underground site surveillance. Officers are expected to maintain a professional demeanor at all times and uphold Kinross' core values in daily operations.

Job Responsibilities

• •    Protect company assets, personnel, and property
• •    Monitor and report security activities to the Security Supervisor
• •    Operate security systems: SuperBase, CCTV, radios, scales, and phones
• •    Conduct preliminary investigations under supervision
• •    Perform routine patrols, both above and below ground
• •    Support team collaboration and training of peers
• •    Adhere strictly to company policies, including safety and confidentiality
• •    Maintain regular attendance and be on-call as needed
• •    Carry out additional tasks as directed

Education And Experience

• •    Strong verbal and written communication
• •    Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• •    Valid U.S. work authorization and driver's license
• •    Computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
• •    Two years’ experience in security, law enforcement, or military preferred
• •    Mining experience and knowledge of site operations preferred but not required
• •    Must obtain site-specific certifications within one year of hire, including:
• o    Hazard Identification
• o    Breathalyzer Alcohol Technician
• o    Site driving certification
• •    Must be 18 years or older

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Security Supervisor.
