We are currently seeking to hire a Garden and Animal Care Specialist to join our team, which is embedded with our client in San Francisco, CA. This position requires working onsite at our client's locations in San Francisco.
Job Description
This role is responsible for the daily care and well-being of animals, routine property and facility maintenance, and upkeep of gardens and landscapes. The position works closely with the property and garden managers to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained grounds, buildings, and outdoor spaces.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and communicate with the property manager and garden manager about daily tasks and objectives
- Provide full daily care for animals, including feeding, administering medications, and basic grooming
- Muck stalls, clean and fill water troughs, and maintain clean and safe living conditions
- Monitor the overall health and wellness of animals, reporting any concerns promptly
- Routine building maintenance and coordination of routine work with the ranch management team and subcontractors
- Routine gardening tasks, including planting, weeding, mulching, and maintaining house gardens
- Perform landscaping tasks including mowing, weed-eating, pulling/picking thistles, and basic yard upkeep
- Walk fence lines routinely to identify and address any damage or safety issues
- Maintaining decks and the outsides of houses
- Sweep and remove goose droppings from driveways and pond decks
- Dust cobwebs and help maintain the exterior cleanliness of all ranch buildings
- Maintain outdoor furniture
- Monitor irrigation and install/repair as needed
Physical Demands
- Constantly required to talk, hear, see, sit, stand, and walk
- Must be able to see at close vision, distant vision, peripherally, have depth perception, and can adjust focus
- Frequent use of hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Frequently required to reach, bend, twist, stoop, crouch, climb, and balance
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience in animal care, including feeding, grooming, administering medications, and monitoring animal health.
- Experience with stable, barn, or farm/ranch work, such as mucking stalls, handling water systems, and maintaining safe living environments for animals.
- Basic gardening and landscaping skills, including planting, weeding, mowing, and general yard upkeep.
- Knowledge of routine property/building maintenance, such as minor repairs, cleaning, and upkeep of outdoor furniture and facilities.
- Familiarity with using and maintaining hand tools and small equipment (e.g., weed eaters, mowers, irrigation systems).
- Ability to work safely outdoors in varied conditions and carry out physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate daily priorities with managers and subcontractors.
