AECOM is seeking a motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the design and construction of buildings within the Buildings + Places business line. This opportunity could be based out of either our Markham, Mississauga or Pickering offices, with opportunities for hybrid work available.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate-level Mechanical Engineer to continue join a talented team working on a wide range of building typologies primarily for the Federal Government and on Transit Projects.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects.
Major Responsibilities:
- Design of Plumbing, Fire Protection and HVAC systems;
- Review HVAC calculations prepared by junior staff and prepare design HVAC design concepts and layouts. Assist in preparing markups and design instructions for modelling/drafting by technicians and junior staff.
- Prepare plumbing design concepts and layouts for modelling/drafting by technicians and junior staff.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of technical documents, calculations, and drawings.
- Provides technical input to studies and design reports to meet client requirements.
- Performs self-quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings prior to submitting to senior staff for review and verification.
- Assists in preparing technical specification sections.
- Assist with the design and drafting of mechanical systems in 2D AutoCAD and MicroStation on an as needed basis;
- Assist with the design and drafting of mechanical systems in 3D such as REVIT on an as needed basis;
- Must be able to prepare written reports and deliver results in a clear manner to technical or non-technical persons;
- Strong communication skills, spoken and written;
- Experienced at using computers and utilizing Windows, e-mail, internet, MS Word, and Excel;
- Able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Assists mechanical engineering team manager with mentoring junior engineering staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- University Degree in Mechanical Engineering two (2) years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Preferred Requirements:
- Prefer an individual with five (5)+ years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
- PWGSC/PSPC - Level II Secret Clearance preferred for Federal Projects.
- Professional Engineering license is preferred.
