Responsible for independently developing, executing, and reporting on control testing procedures to ensure compliance with regulations, internal policies, and operational practices. Identifies control gaps or weaknesses and recommends improvements. Works with business/group and internal partners to ensure regulatory, corporate and fiduciary obligations are met. Evaluates risks and identifies appropriate actions to mitigate them to an acceptable level within the risk appetite.

  • Independently develops and executes comprehensive control test plans and procedures and may lead and review other testers in the execution of control test plans.
  • Clearly documents evidence of control testing activities to facilitate ease of reperformance and adherence to internal documentation policies and requirements.
  • Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of controls and their design and effectiveness and support risk management activities based on an understanding of business operations and stakeholder needs.
  • Conducts and/or effectively challenges control inventories for business units/group and assists to identify more effective controls in alignment with risk evaluation and/or identify common controls across groups to drive standardization.
  • Identifies control deficiencies and provides a fair and balanced assessment of their magnitude.
  • Applies professional skepticism in the execution of the assigned work and ensures open lines of communication.
  • Analyzes and reports control testing results to business/group management including recommending changes to applicable policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with team members and management and builds effective professional relationships with business group leadership and other internal/external stakeholders.
  • Applies previous risk acumen of second line processes and controls across Legal Risk Compliance business units; but may have broader, enterprise-wide control focus including those applicable to BMO’s products and services.
  • Exercises sound professional judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules or tasks.
  • Understand and interpret regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Works independently on a range of tasks including department or program initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Typically, minimum 6 years of relevant experience and degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Audit experience preferred.
  • Recognized CIA certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong process analysis, risk and control identification, and testing capabilities
  • Strong knowledge of second line and/or business operations & procedures, and activities involving documented practices.
  • Proficient in project management skills.
  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth.
  • Collaboration & relationship management skills - In-depth.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - In-depth.
  • Negotiation skills and ability to influence - In-depth.

Salary:

$75,900.00 - $141,900.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
