This exciting opportunity exists to drive deep understanding of obligations, risks and the control environment and lead proactive risk buy down, with a specific focus on our mortgage Broker Head Groups.

Your contribution will be highly visible at senior levels, and will be critical to the performance of Engage and Manage Broker Distribution channel.

The team is part of the Home Buying business and provides support to the Home Loans, and Third Party Banking businesses within RBS. You will report to the National Lead- Broker Governance.

The Home Buying team has end-to-end responsibility for the CommBank’s home loans business. We support the Third Party sales and service teams to meet our customers’ needs for home finance and advice. Our vision is to create the best end-to-end home buying experience, while building and maintaining the best distribution assets and delivering profitable portfolio growth. 

You will be supporting the Third Party Banking/Engage and Manage Broker Governance Squad, responsible for ensuring compliance and safety for our customers and shareholders when engaging with Residential Mortgage Brokers.

On any given day you will

In this role you will lead initiatives to enhance governance frameworks across third-party broker channel, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and strategic alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite and assurance programs.

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Collecting and analysing data, conducting research, and reviewing and synthesising information to develop fact-based recommendations and evaluate strategic projects for the channel
  • Execute on various initiatives through logical problem solving, that addresses the root-cause of issues or performance gaps
  • Lead the execution of projects to improve the broker lifecycle processes, including onboarding, accreditation commissions, and broke conduct investigations workflows
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across broker governance operations, including automation of manual tasks, enhancement of data validation, and reduction of rework through user experience improvements
  • Oversee the development and implementation of dashboards and reporting tools to monitor broker risk ratings, trigger events, and assurance outcomes
  • Conduct impact assessments of legislative and regulatory changes on the E&MB channel including obligations mapping, control updates, and compliance arrangements design and operationalising
  • Draft and coordinate written responses to regulatory requests for information, ensuring clarity, transparency, and alignment with the Group Regulatory Engagement Standard
  • Support senior leadership in regulatory and Senior Leadership engagement including but not limited to: drafting/coordinating written responses to regulatory requests for information and/or drafting Non-Financial Risk Subcommittee papers to ensure clarity, transparency, and alignment with the Group standards and frameworks.

Your experience looks like

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Risk Management or similar would be an advantage, but not mandatory
  • 7+ years of experience in Operational Risk or Governance or a related field within a Financial Services Organisation
  • Strong project management skills, experienced in leading the delivery of end-to-end project management
  • Proven ability to analyse trends, identify critical threats and opportunities, diagnose problems and issues, and recommend appropriate actions
  • Strong Oral and Written communication skills, with the ability to succinctly capture action plans to an appropriate level of detail
  • The capacity to work in a busy, commercial, competitive environment and the ability to meet objectives / targets and deliver customer service
  • Knowledge of Operational and Compliance Risk frameworks, in particular application to Third Party/Supplier/Outsourcing risks and concepts would be advantageous.
