- About the Role
- You are an experienced Community Mental Health Clinician who brings experience in providing consumer focused care from an intensive outreach model. As a Mental Health Clinician you will:
- Implement the Strengths Model to empower individuals in their recovery journey, emphasising their capabilities and resilience.
- Foster strong therapeutic alliances with consumers and actively involve them, along with their family/carers/supporters, in comprehensive care planning and evaluation processes.
- Conduct thorough assessments, deliver targeted interventions, and provide treatment for individuals with intricate mental health needs, aligning practices with local policies and strategic directions.
- Contribute significantly to primary, secondary, and tertiary consultation services, actively engaging in community development, education, and establishing effective liaisons with other supportive agencies.
- Ensure strict compliance with activity-based funding requirements, diligently recording daily contacts, phase of care, outcome measures, and any provided diagnoses
Classifications for this position will range from
- RPN Grade 3 NP81 - NP74 ($100,932 - $112,091 per annum pro rata)
- OT/SW Grade 2 YB20 - YB23 or YC42 - YC45 ($88,030 - $101,197 per annum pro rata)
Your Contribution
- A minimum of at least 2 years postgraduate clinical experience within Mental Health
- Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (RPN & OT)
- RPNs - Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
- Completion of undergraduate Degree in Occupational Therapy OR Masters of Clinical Practice in Occupational Therapy. Social Workers - An approved degree in Social Work (by the AASW) and eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. International Social Workers will need to be able to provide evidence of their assessment of international qualifications from the AASW (inclusive of the reference number).
- A valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

Position Purpose
Under the guidance and support of the Multidisciplinary Team, you will deliver exceptional clinical treatment and support to individuals with serious mental illnesses. Managing a caseload, your role extends beyond clinical responsibilities to actively cultivate and sustain collaborative partnerships with various internal and external service providers.
The Mobile Support and Treatment Service operates seven days a week, with extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, offering intensive home and community-based recovery-oriented services. Targeting individuals with complex mental health needs, the multidisciplinary team employs the Strengths Model of Recovery-Oriented Practice, focusing on holistic and community-centred support.
Similarly, the Continuing Care Team provides specialised treatment and ongoing support throughout the week during business hours. Employing the Strengths Model of Recovery-Oriented Practice, the multidisciplinary team delivers tailored clinical and therapeutic interventions to meet the specific needs of individuals with serious mental illnesses.
Position Duties

- Conduct thorough assessments, deliver targeted interventions, and provide treatment for individuals with intricate mental health needs, aligning practices with local policies and strategic directions.
- Contribute significantly to primary, secondary, and tertiary consultation services, actively engaging in community development, education, and establishing effective liaisons with other supportive agencies.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, actively participating in discipline-specific meetings and training sessions.
- Maintain high standards of clinical practice and professional conduct at all times, ensuring the well-being and satisfaction of those under care.
- Collaborate seamlessly within the multi-disciplinary team, supporting other care partners and ensuring a holistic approach to patient care.
- Provide valuable professional supervision to staff and students (excluding P2 Psychologists), adhering to discipline regulations and fostering a culture of learning.
- Uphold meticulous documentation practices in line with local policies, encompassing clinical records, outcome measures, and Client Management Interface reporting.
- Ensure strict compliance with activity-based funding requirements, diligently recording daily contacts, phase of care, outcome measures, and any provided diagnoses.
Local Work Environment
St. Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner-city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The Adult Mental Health service components are: The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), a 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent’s Hospital Fitzroy Campus, the North Fitzroy PARC and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS) consisting of Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment Service (MSTS) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services, Psychiatric Triage and Crisis Assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Police, Ambulance and Clinical Response (PACER), ED Mental Health, Extended Triage and The Primary Intervention Care Team (PICT), Hospital Outreach Post Suicide Engagement (HOPE), Supporting Tenants at Yarra Housing Project (STAY).
A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the general health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) are regional services. State-wide services include the Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to and supported by the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.
Selection Criteria
Essential Registration, License Or Qualification Requirements
- A minimum of at least 2 years post qualification clinical experience within Mental Health for SW, OT and RPN
- Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (all disciplines except Social Work)
- RPNs - Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in mental health for nursing staff
- Occupational Therapists - Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
- Psychologists - Registration as a psychologist under the Psychology Board of Australia. Practice endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist or eligibility to enter a Clinical Psychology registrar program with the Psychology Board of Australia; or
- Social Workers - An approved degree in Social Work (by the AASW) and eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. International Social Workers will need to be able to provide evidence of their assessment of International qualifications from the AASW (inclusive of the reference number).
- Current Victorian driver’s license

- A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2014 (including amendments) and other relevant legislation
- Commitment to work collaboratively and effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team with multiple key stakeholders both internal and external of the St Vincent’s Health organization (including consumers, carers, family members and community agencies)
- Demonstrated ability to working collaboratively with clients and carers to promote self-determination and enable progress towards reaching personal goals
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including problem solving ability and conflict resolution skills, as well as sound oral and writing skills.
Occupational Therapy
- Knowledge of and commitment to providing a comprehensive range of occupational therapy assessments and interventions for people with serious mental illness and complex needs, and their carers
- Understanding of evidenced based practice and models of occupational therapy (including the Model of Human Occupation) and their application in clinical practice
- Knowledge of sensory modulation theory and intervention
- Knowledge of the specific assessments including the MOHO Assessments and Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS).
Psychology
- Knowledge of and commitment to providing a comprehensive range of psychological assessments including diagnostic, cognitive and personality assessments for people with serious mental illness and complex needs
- Experience in the development and application of evidence based therapeutic interventions for people with major mental health disorders
- Comprehensive understanding of the theories of human behaviour and psychopathology and their application in clinical practice
Nursing
- Knowledge of appropriate medication and administration management including relevant legislation
- Ability to apply nursing models and processes
- Awareness of infection control techniques.
Social Work
- Knowledge of and commitment to providing a comprehensive range of social work assessment and intervention services for people with serious mental illness and complex needs
- Demonstrate knowledge of family and social system assessments with the ability to identify gaps and facilitate access to appropriate resources.
Other Non-Essential Requirements
- Post-graduate qualifications in relevant area of specialty or in the process of achieving the same are desirable.
