Job Description:
Shift Supervisor
Position Summary
Provides leadership and supervision of maintenance crews while performing daily work activities of maintaining contracted assets. Responsible for maintenance, servicing, and repairs of infrastructure assets per standards in the contract and as directed by the Superintendents and the Project Manager. Coordinates day-to-day operations of personnel involved on incident response related inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Holds overall responsibility for operations and maintenance of the project for their shift.
- Directs daily operations and maintenance and provides direction on schedules and subcontractor work.
- Collaborates with the Superintendents and Project Manager to coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of a services plan consistent with the identified needs of the client and the contract.
- Ensures completion of condition assessment of signs, tunnels, electrical/mechanical systems, and other contract requirements.
- Requests materials, tools, and equipment for repairing facility infrastructure through Superintendents.
- Serves as technical advisor to work crews.
- Works with Superintendents and the Project Manager to schedule work to be performed.
- Inspects in-process and completed work to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Acts as a communication link between the Project Manager and operations personnel.
- Responsible for proper work reporting, timesheets, and other systems. Prepares reports and correspondence, as necessary.
- Verifies work, interprets the contract, and gives direction on schedules and subcontractor work.
- Positively contributes to a diverse, inclusive, and fair work environment free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
- Act effectively as a first responder during emergencies and stressful situations. During an emergency, specific duties shall be designated by the Tunnel Operator or Supervisor.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Must have 3-5 years of skilled trade or engineering experience, including knowledge of construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications for roadways, structures, electrical and mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environmental, and EEO guidelines and regulations.
- Experience operating computer equipment, software programs, and field inspection equipment.
- Ability to provide technical supervision and leadership to other staff
- Maintain detailed records.
- Be an ambassador in implementing policies and procedures.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, as needed.
- Must practice safe work methods to remain accident and injury free.
- Must have the ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and make adjustments to avoid loss, injury or accident.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to your job.
- Ability to professionally cooperate and communicate written or verbally with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to understand instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals to comply with contractual requirements
- Ability to work flexibly and willingness to work extensively to meet business needs
- Must be able to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply divide, calculate proportions, percentages, and measurements).
- Possess a high level of attention to detail.
Education And Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Three to five (3-5) years’ work experience in infrastructure maintenance and repair is preferred.
- Firefighter 1 certification or above preferred; ; otherwise, must obtain Firefighter 1 certification when the next class is held.
- A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required to drive a company vehicle.

- Use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities include close and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Must practice safe work methods to remain accident and injury free.
- Must have the ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and make adjustments to avoid loss, injury, and accidents.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric-powered tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to work in heat and cold.
Work Environment
- The noise level is usually moderate. There is infrequent exposure to above normal noise levels.
- Operations are 24/7 with occasional holidays, nights, and weekends required.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold and wet/and or humid conditions.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places and fumes or airborne particles and to toxic or caustic chemicals.
